I was so close to buying one yesterday - never had an iPod.
They're overpriced. Don't be fooled by looks, you can get far better for your money.
The whole iPod phenomenon is a complete victory for style and marketing over substance.
Is it true they've actually stopped making ipod minis and are "replacing" them with the nano?
I'm buying a Nano as my Mini died a couple of days ago.

Umm, Lucy won a Shuffle as a result of a promotion in the call centre just before she left. Of course I did the decent thing and filled it up with my tunes so she doesn't want to use it.
It's actually pretty good. Would I consider spending money on one, or a proper iPod though? Probably not.
