Are there anymore original ideas out there to employ in videogames? We have had the stealth-em-up, shoot-em-up, beat-em-up, first person shooter, role playing games by the bucket load, strategy, driving, simulation and sports...Will our future games be dry of originality?

I would have thought Movies and Books to be a much more limited Genre...

And they still seem to be producing a lot of interesting and original stuff...

???

In books and films, if you change a couple of situations you have a completely new story, but in a game, you could do these things but the game would still be in the same genre, and ultimately the same game

Not really...

They've done pretty much that with Half Life and the Add-On packs...

Each pack (including the new Blue Shift) places you as different people i the same situation...

Its essentially the same game, but with a few changes..

For a book to change Genre takes a LOT more than few changes to the storyline...

How many people have watched two films of the same genre and thouroughly enjoyed both of them, many!! It comes down to when the games are blatant rip offs of another game that starts to really get to me. The best example for keeping a genre but changing the Story and Game has to be the Final Fantasy series!!
