Went to an early morning showing which started at 1am this morning (which made me feel exceptionally geeky not to mention tired this morning) and speaking in the style of master Yoda, "like it you will".
George Lucas has nearly, very nearly, redeemed himself for the monumental balls-up that is EP1. The battle scenes (of which there are probably too many if you want to be overly critical, but I guess it is set during a war) are just stunning, the lightsaber fights are fantastic, and the Star Wars atmosphere is overall a bit more like the original series of films. The way the film ties all the ends together to set it up for A New Hope is also done brilliantly, and it left me with quite a satsified feeling to finally see the kind of closure we all knew was coming.
I'll leave the long-winded reviews which break down every aspect of the film in microscopic detail to others, and simply say it was a darn enjoyable film, not quite sure if you'd ever say it was better than EPs 4, 5 or 6, but it certainly dumps over EPs 1 & 2 from a very great height.

Although I'd wager that if the words "Star Wars Episode III" were removed from the title, and it was released as a new film, it would receive far more praise.
I personally thought Episodes I & II were mildly enjoyable despite their faults, so I think this one will deliver.

Nope, because at the appearance of the classic "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" and the crawl, each and every reviewer would think "uh oh...."
Remove them? Then it isn't a Star wars movie. :D
Also, for a similar movie check out Riddick. That's got the effects, the head up the ass pretentiousness, the wooden acting and the set pieces.
That got raped by most reviewers too.
You get the feeling that it's all something of a foregone conclusion. Anyway, I'll reserve judgement for now, and go and see the film with an open mind.
'tis a pretty dark film, compared to other outings anyway.
I thought the start and the end were quite weak, but the middle was good. Although it featured Natalie Portman far too much.
But i liked it more than Episodes I and II. Plus CP30 didn't make any 'hilarious' one-liners, which was good. I was probably expecting too much from it to be honest.
> Pity it's been getting such crap reviews.
It's actually got a fair mix. Some great reviews, Mirror/Empire/Hot Dog and some bad ones Daily Mail/Guardian.
Personally I liked the first 2 so I'm really looking forward to this.
