I like the sound of the Dell XPS but it looks well 2 expensieve.

I'm not sure whether there's a motherboard out there that can manage that. A controller card is a card that goes in a PCI slot and allows you to connect lots of disk drives, more than a motherboard usally can and they are usually faster than motherboards at RAID arrays.

(WTF is a controller card?!? My IC7-G can handle 7 S-ATA drives, surely there's one with 8 :D.)
