I'm not sure whether there's a motherboard out there that can manage that. A controller card is a card that goes in a PCI slot and allows you to connect lots of disk drives, more than a motherboard usally can and they are usually faster than motherboards at RAID arrays.

7 in RAID? That would be a good effort from a motherboard. My K8VSE can handle 2 in RAID and/or 2 not in RAID. 8 in RAID is impressive though.

(WTF is a controller card?!? My IC7-G can handle 7 S-ATA drives, surely there's one with 8 :D.)
