Right. I want a new graphics card. One that will be able to play with everything on high settings. I'm thinking that perhaps ATi would be the best path to choose, but have no idea what to go for.

Not wanting to spend anymore than £300 really. And I'm thinking about buying 512mb more RAM aswell. So what would be my best options with/without the RAM?

Thank ye all.

Oh and another vote for me getting a GT was my XFX one has dual DVI which is very handy for a dual setup :)

I think from what I've read if you run games at 1280 x 1024 then go for a GT/Ultra/X800pro/XT anything less and you won't be getting the max out of it.

Alright for some! I'm happy with my 9800XT which is good cos I can't see myself having enough money to upgrade in the next few years. Tbh, I don't do much gaming anyway - I just like knowing my PC is up to doing pretty much anything I can ask of it. It now has the functionality of a:

- TV with Recording capabilities and an EPG
- Radio
- Phone
- DVD Player / Recorder
- Music Jukebox

plus the usual other applications. I can control all the media related stuff (TV, radio, etc) with my phone as well - which is always fun.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I'm not having a go or anything, I just know having owned both within the last 9 months and tested them with a fair few systems.

It doesn't get better than 2GB Corsair XMS3200 XL PRO.

Plus that isn't entirely true, the X800 XT Platinum Edition out performs the 9800XT by a considerable margain. I sold my 9800 XT before getting an X800 XT Platinum Edition and the difference is huge.

I play mine on a TFT at 1280 x 1024 with all settings on high and where I can 8 x AA and 16 x AF. Anyone who says you don't need a top end system to run games like that is talking serious anal wash.

The GT does perform better than the Pro on quite a few things. The XT murders the Ultra though.

What res do you play your games at? From what I gather, there isn't much of a difference between a 9800XT and an X800/6800 whatever until you get to about 1600*1200. At 1280*1024, there is a difference, but only a few fps. If you've got a TFT that won't go above 1280*1024, then go for a 9800XT and buy some more RAM or better RAM - or both!

Can't disagree with that. I've got a Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample (Ultra Speed)
Nothing but silky smoothness.

6800GT all the way, they can be had for £280 on OCUK :) Quality all round card, although ATI are better for HL2. My GT performed better than my pro in most other games.
