It's just weeks until the Wii is out, and Amazon pre-sold their entire initial allocation of Wii consoles in about 4 seconds earlier this week. The console is well placed for Christmas, the price is reasonable and there is a great line up of games to choose from as well as the new Zelda title. These include Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and SpongeBob himself, not to mention the Wii Sports bundled with the console.
The latest instalment of Zelda is out on December 8th for the Wii launch. Twilight Princess sees the old hero Link discovering new abilities in the battle against a malicious darkness which is falling across the land. Link's transformation into a wolf adds a new dimension to the adventure, as does the use of the Wii remote and nunchuck for a whole range of moves and features.

With The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Nintendo have risen to the challenge of delivering an engaging and fresh experience of a popular and established game, using the innovative Wii controls. Gamers will be treating this as something of a test for the newly launched console, especially in light of the considerable affection for Zelda, one of gaming's most successful franchises.

The Wii proves itself to be very intuitive with great backwards compatibility, and the new controls quickly add to the experience of the game rather than detracting from it. Although almost identical to every other Zelda adventure, the latest Zelda, adventure has all the charm we have come to expect, with a gripping story and great characters. It is beautifully designed, and still looks wonderful despite the Wii not offering next-gen graphics. Nintendo seem to have thought of everything, and the sound of clashing swords from the Wii remote, and the way that it vibrates when you release the bow string, are nice details.

Twilight Princess gives us all the familiar thrills and some new ones thanks to some imaginative narrative development and the Wii remote, and it will be down to games designers to discover the potential of the new controller. It will certainly be a hit with less hardcore gamers, as Nintendo prove once again that they lead the way for original, fun game play. Plus, we can look forward to full DVD functionality in 2007. With a great line up of games, Nintendo look set to steal the show this Christmas, whilst the long wait for the PS3 becomes increasingly nerve-wracking, expensive, and in many cases violent.
