Firman in pole position, Baumgartner in charge

Ralf Firman has taken pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix in what turned out to be a bizarre wet session. Times were all over the place, with first and last split by over 16 seconds.

Baumgartner was one of the few drivers to find a time and it gives him an advantage. Baumgartner will start 4th with his closest Championship rival, Salo, 17th. Button and Barrichello both need big results and they need a strong drive to back it up as they start 12th and 13th respectively. Villeneuve needs a win and he will start 7th.

The Constructors Championship is still wide open. Minardi has both cars in the top 8, so do Ferrari. Jordan, Williams, Jaguar and Sauber all have one car in the top 8.

Firman takes pole position ahead of Verstappen in 2nd. Michael Schumacher is 3rd in the Ferrari with Championship leader Baumgartner in 4th. Montoya is 5th, almost 3 seconds behind pole position. Bruni has caused a lot of accidents and starts near the front again in 6th. Villeneuve needs to go on all out attack to win from 7th and Heidfeld takes the last place in the top 8.

Hmmm 10th, could have done a bit better but okay anyway, let's hope I can make it in to the top 8 for the race.

13th! Bah...still, I've seen crazier comebacks and with wet conditions lots of cars might retire :D

12th. Well that's a cigarette end in the ear, isn't it?

But at least I have my predictions. Which bring satisfyingly better results than British American Racing's inconsistentcy.
