"Duke of Edinburgh's Award"

Anyone done this? I was thinking of doing it, simply because it looks good on paper. I'd be doing Gold Award. Looks like a lot of work though, and I'll have enough to do this year, but my parents will probably beat me if I don't do it.
So, what was it like to anyone who actually took part in it?

I didn't do it at all because I thought it was a waste of time, seeing as I already play sports pretty much 7 days a week, and I'd already done a 3 day hike that term.

It was the Bronze award they offered us yes... but alas, I did not take it.

1 night in a tent = 2 day hike = Bronze award.

We go on a 4 day hike with a total of 80km for this. Sure you didn't do silver award or something?

I did canoeing and absailing and stuff for it, which ruled.

Snot all about camping at all really...

Had to do a 3 day hike for GCSE P.E, whereas D of E award is just a short walk (compared to the other one) and spending one night in a tent.

The award is mainly made up of you just playing sport (and getting a coach etc to fill in a booklet).

i.e tis a waste of time for me.....

It's regarded as the geekiest thing ever at my school; there are about 5 people who do it, all of which are uber-boffins.

It sounds woeful.

It's like a camping trip, but with more walking and less of the "camp-scouts" thing. Well, thats part of it, you have to do like community service and a few other things.

I never did it back when I was at school.

What the hell is it?

I was gonna do it. But then it looked like a complete waste of my time. So I didn't bother.

Therefore, I am of no use to you whatsoever....
