I'm currently collecting tools for my machine that aid me with, well, development. I currently own Visual Studio.net 2003, which I am working on various C++ applications (slowly, it all seems very confusing at the moment) but I need to expand my ever increasing collection.
I want to do some work on my website, and some people reccomended I learn some PHP. Not knowing exactly what the benefits of PHP are, I may as well give it a try (anyone want to give an explanation?). So I was wondering what tools are there available to use for coding in PHP, and are their any good tutorials?
Thanks.

1. It's opensource
2. It's easy
Tools? I use Zend Studio for whiting and testing, but in all honesty, all you need is notepad/DWMX2004, Apache, PHP 4.3 & MySQL.
As for picking it up, wouldn;t know. I did a load of training during my last job. Rob will have a huge list oflinks somewhere.
I use Gvim for my coding, amazingly little thing. What's all this Zend stuff about?
