Seems I stopped the "avgcore.sys error" thank god for that, anyway do you think I should use windows update even though I have a firewall and hate Internet exporer or should I wait for Service Pack 2?

I find windows update to be slow and annoying, but i do it nevertheless.
Its recommended you update with the latest stable patchs from WindowsUpdate, I would wait until SP2 is released as a stable version as it is still in testing (meaning lots of nasty bugs)
Is there a release date on SP2 yet?
Yes but like everything lately it keeps being delayed (nothing new there then)

ll I've been running SP2 for a month or so now and it's not noticeably any more flawed than SP1, it adds a few new features and stuff so you may as well upgrade now if you can be bothered to download it.
I've done windows update it's stable enough but they find so many security holes nowadays it's a pain using Windows Slow Update just to patch a bloody problem they made themselves.
