Then you had George Lazenby for the one off O.H.M.S.S, which whilst having one of the best theme tunes of all the Bond movies, was only really notable for that and nothing else.
I discount David Niven's 'Sir' James Bond because Casino Royale just doesn't figure in the equation. Ian Fleming DID write it, but it wasn't a 'real' Bond movie in the serious sense of things. However, go back 30 years and David Niven could well have been the first Bond, albeit a black and white one.
Roger Moore tried hard, but those eyebrows and quippy lines, the way he never seemed to take the job seriously, he got on my nerves more than anything else, but maybe that's just because I was always sore that Connery wasn't still in the role.
Since then, we've had Timothy Dalton, who was just too classical in the role for me, too Shakespearian if you get my drift.
Pierce Brosnan? A great actor, but too good looking for my liking. Bond attracted the ladies through more than just good looks, and Brosnan seems to have looks and not much else apart from acting ability, not an essential prerequisite for a Secret Agent.
So the all time for me has to be Sean Connery.
Who would I like see replace Brosnan? I have no idea, that's a tough one. But I think with the changing times, the next actor to play 007 won't necessarily come from the British Isles.
Ben Affleck, anyone?
But Moore's 007 would at least get some luvvin' afterwards whilst Simon Templar would just be all smug and stuff.
Man, Live and Let Die is THE Bond movie.
Except for Man With The Golden Gun.
But Live and Let Die wins, what other mainstream Hollywood movie for kids had the line
"Take this honky out back and waste him..." courtesy of Yaphet Koto as Mr Big.
Mr Big, the best villain name of all time.
Except for Scaramanga.
Or Odd-Job.

Brosnan also suits the role well in my opinion.
Perhaps I just like the more modern ones - always thought the Connery films were far more cheesy than the later ones.
Roger Moore made his own Bond. If you count all the different Bonds as different series of films, then they are all pretty damn good. Unfortunatly, judging them together is a pain, as the styles are so contrasting.
A lot of people think Live and Let Die is the best Bond film too... but I beg to differ. Roger really didn't have his character in focus then, and he almost tried to be like Sean, than like Moore... I think the soundtrack has something to do with it too.
Timothy? Sometimes you forgot he was the main character in some of his films... But he played Bond the way the books were written. It was a good choice made by him, but shows that if they hadn't keep true to the books, Sean Connery would never have been Bond, and the series wouldn't be as popular as it was and still is.
As for the next Bond? Who knows. I'm a traditionalist, so I wouldn't be able to accept change. I will get used to it, but I'm not very good at picking someone to "continue the legacy" of Bonds...
What happened to Blofeld? There was that rather weak bit at the start of For Your Eyes Only, where some bald bloke tries to sell shares in iron, I think, to Bond, but ends up in a tower chimney shaft. Bit of a crap end to a great adversory? I hope he's still alive... would make a change from the weak baddies they've had in the past few years... sans 006.
