Hi,

This might seem a strange question with an obvious answer, but its only obvious if you know the answer.

If I install XAMPP (PHP/MySQL/etc) on my local machine which is connected to the net, for local development/testing only, am I just as likely to get code injections on my local system as perhaps I might on a remote server?

Neil

You seem quite concerned about code injections, any reason? :)

Anyway, you should be fine.  I dont know your home set up, but its likely your webserver wont even be exposed to the outside world.  If your machine is connected to the internet via a BB router then your local site would only be visible to the outside world if you set up your router to forward port 80 to your machine.

Yup, Garin is completely correct, unless you make your home HTTP server visible to the net it most likely will not be accessible.

As for injections, foolproof your code and you will not get any!
