HELP WITH ANIMATED GIF FILES

Hi I am fairly new to WEBSITE DESIGN and need advice from you experts.

I am using the Freeola InstantPro website builder and before I signed up to the service I was advised by a Freeola advisor that this software is compatible with animated .gif files.

I use Adobe Photoshop then Adobe Image Ready to create the animation which I save as an optimised file.

I wanted to create an animated Banner and an animated Logo. Everything seems fine with the files in Adobe. I upload the files to my Freeola account and can see the animation working etc in the resizing/crop window.

However once I "save" all progress and "preview" the web page all I see is a white box where banner and logo should be - this is the first frame of each of the animations as both fade in from a white background.

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong with this or does InstantPro not support .gif files even though I was advised it did?

Really look forward to your comments.

You can't use animated GIF's where the image is then modified by the InstantPro builder. This happens when you upload a logo or banner (as the image is automatically resized) or when you upload the image using the WYSIWYG editor and then use the edit features to amend it. This is because PHP support when performing actions such as resizing and cropping is poor/lacking.

It turns out that you are right. It's just my "play" site that's having problems. :(

For your benefit Hmmm.. I've emailed you a link to it :S

I think that's what the OP said they already get???

I couldn't leave it alone - so I tried changing my banner to an animated gif - I also only saw the first frame of the animation.

As other's have said before, it's a shame you can't 'play' with banners and templates without effecting the live site!

Just confirmed as I suspected with McLong that the ability to use animated .gifs in banners and logos is not possible.

The builder will perform actions using the images in logos/banners that makes it incompatible with this type of file. However in the case of .gifs it should take the first impression and use that as a "flat" image. Which it does not appear to be.

I have forwarded this issue on to be resolved, which should result in your site displaying the first shot of your animation.

I was wondering that myself :¬)

Don't think I can test that properly without trashing my existing site - so I'll leave this to the experts...

Hi there,
I've just tried a quick test for you and it all seems to work :¬)

InstantPro animated gif test

Are modifying your gif or using the InstantPro options to change it in anyway?

Feel free to provide a link if you would like others to take a look...
