I have created the following in .htaccess

redirect 301 /path.filename.htm http://www.domain/path/filename.html

actual names have been used for path, filename and domain

But is not working, any ideas

Glad to hear things are working for you and thanks for updating the thread - lots of 'new' posters seem to 'ask' and then never return?! :¬(

My 301's (which all work!) have loads of Apache gobbledegook in them ^(.*)$ etc. all cribbed from Google searches.

Unless your .htaccess entry is surrounded by loads of other bits then your solution looks much more meaningful!

Just checking, your example should have been:
redirect 301 /path/filename.htm http://www.domain.com/path/filename.html ?

Hi Jonn, welcome to the forums.

Is that all of the contents of your .htaccess?
It doesn't look as if you have used the correct syntax to me.

Lots of info if you 'Google' 301 redirect...
