We'd need an infra-red option for that.

Now that would be a dark, dark day.

Made me smile that you only flagged that as a 'minor problem' on the email status 'gauge' :¬)

What do you use RED email status for?...

Yep, came back up around 5 o'clock and should be working fully now, although maybe a little slowly for a few minutes more whilst everyone hits it at the same time.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this downtime.

We do use graylisting, I'll have a chat with MotoMoto, to run him down on how that works,  but graylisting is basically a method of reducing spam based on the fact that spam is often sent from specialised tools that if they are refused access the first time will not try an address again.  So if we delay access for 5-15 minutes often spammers will not retry the address, whereas correctly configured email servers will.

Hi Guys,

No problems that we were aware of, I've learnt that generally if there is a long delay in messages being delivered, it is generally down to the recipients e-mail servers.

I've also learnt (mainly from speaking to other customers) that when sending a message to an external (non-Freeola) hosted e-mail address for the first time, there seems to be a delay (few hours), but all messages sent after this first message come through rather quickly.

I'm not sure if this is some form of grey listing...

But Digi,

I think if you sent an e-mail to the BT address again, it would be delivered nearly instantly, the Orange account will probably be the same after they have received the first message.

But don't hold me to this !
Hmmm...

Hi Digi,
FWIW - all seems to be working normally for me.

My emails to Orange are working (yesterday PM and this AM) - the BT Status page also shows all clear...
