Google Analytics and adverse affect on Instant sit... There are 10 replies
Original Message posted by Lodgeman on 29/04/2008 at 3:15:15PM
I was very pleased to find that my Instant Site was achieving excellent rankings on Google only a week or two shortly after I created it.  I then installed the code from Google Analytics to monitor site visits and within a few days the site is nowhere to be seen.  I have since stripped out the code but am still waiting patiently for the site to re-appear.

Anybody else come across this or have any ideas about what can be done?

Thanks

ps. Is there a way of searching past threads that I have submitted on the forum?

Hi Digi,
The Freeola 'hit counter' shows unique visitors to your site (I guess it's based on the same visitors IP address).

I see Mrs Digi's site is indexed by Google and also has a couple of in-coming links which will be generating traffic.

If you login to EDIT your Instant Site and use the Instant Site Statistics link you can see where your visitors are coming from! You can see the 'referrering' sites and search engine terms, etc.

Nice site by the way ;¬)

Mrs Digi has an instant site and it has a counter supplied by freeola, its had thousands of hits yet we have not really pushed it publicly she is well impressed - is this because the counter goes up every time some one searches for Freeola or instant sites? or will it be actual page veiws?

Hi again.  Really appreciate your time and trouble in looking into this for me.  I copied the code from a newly created page and replaced the stray code on the site so hopefully that has taken care of that issue. I also thought about re-creating the pages which wouldn't be a big job just so I know that I'm back where I started, but probably not necessary.  I'll sit back instead and see what happens over the next week or so.  Thanks again for your help.

All looks ok on the Google front to me!

Google command site: shows all 5 of your pages indexed - also works with the 'pages from the UK' selected.

The Google cached pages show they have all been indexed in the last week so things are still very fresh. Results can sometimes be unstable for a while as new results are propagated to all of Google's data-centres. So pages will come and go when a site is newly indexed - don't worry you just have to wait for things to stabilise.

New sites often take a while to show up from searches when they are so fresh, as long as the 'site:' command shows they are in the index things normally sort themselves out.

NB. Possibly from when you stripped out your GA code you seem to have a script error on all the pages (a part from the contact page) line 116/117: </tbody></table></script></tbody></table>

Hi Lodgeman,
I'm pretty certain it won't be Google Analytics that have caused any problems - so I would put it back.

Without seeing your site it's hard to say what may be causing problems, there are lots of reasons - feel free to give us the address.

When you say it's no where to be seen - is this when you look for certain keywords? Does the Google command site:www.yoursite.com give you any results?

Google can rate new sites highly initially then they can go through the Google 'sandbox' before performing well again.
If your pages are still indexed (site: command) then it's just a matter of being patient.

Also take a look at my Google-'Freeola Instant Site' tips post!

Thanks for your response.  I'm reassured that there does not appear to be any conflict between the Analytics coding and the Instant Site.  I'll just wait a little longer and hope that the rankings recover and take things from there.  I'll keep you posted!

I'm not sure what can be done. Perhaps Google have changed their ranking rules yet again.

You can search these forums using the search tool very kindly created by user Hmmm here. It will allow you to search anything on these forums that has been indexed by Google.
