Original Post:
I note that Columbo is at 92%.

Is there any other issue right now, as I'm downloading and my throughput is not even hitting 2Mbps (for a line less that 500 metres *cable* - not straight line - length from the exchange).

I have just reset the router to see if that was causing the problem, but I'm still running at 1.9Mbps.

This also happened yesterday.  I'm currently highly unimpressed with having to pay full whack for this speed.

I think you'll find that Wimbledon is having a big impact on capacity (as it does each year)!  LOTS of people are streaming the games online...

Using the info I've provided before see if the ALT is restricting your connection in an attempt to make the best out of things.
If it is then resetting your router obviously wont help!

If the ALT isn't active on your node then it could be 'lots' of other things, let us know... But at 92% it should be :¬P

I believe you have had these issues before that have been answered. Have you checked your old posts and tickets and gone back through all the advice? It's likely it is the same occurence.

Please bare in mind that while we continue to monitor the forums as much as possible any answer we give on here is not a priority. If you are having problems you should submit a ticket or call.

EDIT: Just noticed Hmmm...'s post and yeah, that was what I was trying to get at.

@Hmmm...

Good point :)

At time of posting ALT was 'active and stable'

My throughput has now 'normalised'

So what is the world and his wife streaming today at 1:30pm since at least midday, to give me 1.1Mbps?!

I would expect ALT to kick me back to maybe 4 or 5 Mbps but this is fast becoming unacceptable and a regular occurrance - *since* Wimbledon.

ALT is active and stable.

I'd have to agree with you on that!

I'm on the Faraday IPSC node and the ALT seems to be on more than off lately.

Hopefully some more capacity is on the way?

BT Speedtester results at 16:21:

Your DSL connection rate: 13432 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1132 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 10000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 910 kbps

*Not* impressed.

I would like an official explanation please.

...and its not my kit.

We don't have time to constantly monitor these forums. This is why we spcifically mention not  to bring up official faults on here and have various methods of contacting our support officially.

Follow one of these methods if you wish an official response, and it should be responded to as soon as possible.

Hi Warhunt - don't forget that the idea of Freeola's Services forum is to keep others up to speed with things as well - sometimes it's good to keep things 'in the open' as one thread/post can help lots of others and save support having to repeat things!

Neilj99's post didn't look like a "quick help me now" type post to me.

I'm also being affected by the ALT being active during the day more often lately and reducing speeds; so I would also be interested in Freeola's response as I'm sure others will.

Obviously if you need account/line details then it wouldn't be appropriate to post them in the forum.

??? You picked up Neilj99's post pretty quickly!
Obviously if customers do post here rather than contact you directly they should appreciate it's not always guaranteed to get the fastest reply, but that's their choice.

To be honest the issue is more that we need to establish that the ALT is the reason that Neil is receiving slow speeds than that we don't provide specific support on the forums.  I've picked up Neils ticket and I am requesting that he does a couple of BT speedtests for us at different times of the day.   If the ALT is coming on at a unacceptable level for too large a period of time, then we would have to progress that with our wholesalers, and move on from there, however from past experience (maybe not with this one or your account) then it is more likely to be line issues causing slow speeds than the ALT.

Hi ncrs,
Thanks for your post - that's a bit more constructive than Warhunt's ;¬)

Hopefully you'll get to the bottom of this - but from where I'm sitting (I'm on IPSC rather than Neilj99 who must be on a WBC node) the ALT is/has been in effect on many nodes throughout the day recently!

As I mentioned I'm on the Faraday IPSC node which for me currently reports:

ALT status for your connection
16 July 2009, 17:58:15
Active and increasing

Reading other forums I can assure you MANY people are complaining not just me and Neilj99 so I don't beleive it's all down to line problems :¬)

The last time things went really  S L O W  was during Wimbledon, all I can think of now if the schools have started to break up and the current capacity can't cope!

For what its worth Hmmm, I'm on the Birmingham IPSC node and the ALT is off - has been for the last few days at least.

Hi Dragonlance,
If you look during the day I think you'll see it is on for the Birmingham node.  There are a couple of sites that plot the history and show things get pretty busy around 11am onwards.

But it's good that it's not affecting you for the times you are online :¬)

Faraday has just hit 91% usage and kicked the ALT on - Your Birmingham node is around 90% so it's looking pretty busy.

As I've mentioned before the ALT is there to manage the available bandwidth as best it can - it's just that lately it's starting to look as if the available capacity needs to be looked at.

Hi Hmmm,

Thanks for the info. As you say, it doesn't seem to affect the evenings as yet...but who knows. Which are the sites you mention?

Hi Dragonlance,
I can't say I'm afraid as they are competitors... :¬P

I see your node is on 95% at the moment :¬(
My speed is currently reduced to half it's normal throughput.

To answer your question above:
I've just realised that both Golf and Cricket are going on this week - that won't be helping...

This is true...

However, I'm now getting throughput of less than 1Mbps on occasion.  This is far from acceptable.

As we speak my speedtest.net test has reported a download t/p of 0.50.  Upload speeds seem unaffected.

My uploads are currently faster than my downloads.

Love the smilee there lol. Maybe you misunderstood my post or something because I was trying to be helpful? :S

The post was made in a hurry as the office was quite busy at that point. And Neil seemed like he was getting frustrated over receiving no official response on the forums.

As I always do, (check any other issue on here) I would have checked his account and got back to him. However I had a large job to finish before I went home. Knowing that there was an increased chance of him not receiving an answer based on my departure for the day using the forums, I wanted to point out that he would need to follow the official method. That way his query would be answered as soon as possible by any of my colleagues rather than those just happening to be on the forums.

To get back on the topic, I believe the N may have looked into this already. I'll post back after having a chat with him tomorrow for you Neil.

Updated my support ticket today.

For general interest, I had no issues at all over the weekend, and this morning my download throughput was back to 1Mbps.

The ALT seems to start reducing my speeds around 11am during the week :¬(

Hopefully Warhunt/ncrs will have an update on what appears (to me) to be capacity problems soon.
