Getting a little travel sick reading the forums on the move though!

Indeed i can. Northern Line (or something like that) from Glasgow down to Euston or Victoria. There's then a train from Victoria directly to Reading.

Talking of small towns, I'm off up to London tomorrow.  All business though.

Fair enough, but it's got plenty of good pubs and rock nights, and even a few interesting shops (This coming from someone who detests shopping!)

Maybe it's the fact I come from a small town...

I used to go to Norwich regularly each year. Easily the worst times of my life and I've been sick for the last 5+ years... :)

After 2 weeks of rain, cloud and general awfulness in Norwich, I come back home to Surrey and it's ridiculously sunny. I guess the old railway advertisment was true, summer does come soonest in the south...

I'll have to do a bit of juggling. I'll be watching the qualifying so will have to watch the Euros online but I also watch the timing screens online. I'll have to try and watch all 3 at the same time.

It'll be similar tomorrow but I have to play poker at the same time. Who says men can't multitask? :)

Morning (just).  Nice day so far, hope it lasts as we're going on a picnic.  just been swimming with the girls and I'm in the car waiting for Gina to finish cleaning before we go and meet our friends.  Luckily I have unlimited gprs internet till end of June with my BT Anywhere (Freeola is better, of course, but I have a contract with Bt).

Anyway, what's everyone else up to?

I might actually knock together some pre-code stuff. I usually just dive in, but perhaps this requires a more planned approach.

At the risk of sounding like a lecturer, it's actually really helpful to draw up a sequence diagram to get your head around what's going on or what needs to go on.

Okay, I don't know how your code is structured so this may or may not map directly to what you have, but...
You have some form of structure in the whatever's responsible for the JPanel to hold the input data, right? Create a method of a set of methods to allow something to externally set that data.

Your "OK" button definitely needs a listener, yes. This listener should have a reference or something to the class containing the JPanel, and it should also have references to the input fields. So, when the actionPerformed() method is called, it will be able to look at each of the input boxes and call the relevant set() method.

It's not so much a problem.. it's more just getting my head round event-driven programming.

For example, if I've got a JFrame that has a JMenuBar + some JMenus, and clicking on a JMenu component fires an event that results in a JDialog appearing (where the listener is an inner class), how can I then set it up so that this new JDialog (which has a few JTextFields) returns all the data given to the calling JFrame.

The main problem I guess is the 'OK' button that returns back to the main frame. It needs to have it's own listener I guess.. but where to put it in the code? Ho hum...

I know there's a lot of Java and flash creation stuff on the pc downstairs. Was bought off my cousin who creates videos and other such stuff for the BBC. Generally i'm all for learning but i'd rather burn my eyes out of the sockets than get involved with coding again.

It's a barrel of laughs. I'll maybe go start a new post through there. To be honest, I'm probably best buying a book for doing GUIs. It's a total pain.

If you want a fairly painless intro, my Java module at uni last term might help. All the lecture notes are online and pretty thorough.. check it out at Glasgow's CS Notes.
