Bing.com

Microsoft's new-ish search engine.  Has anybody else used it?

I've tried it once or twice and it seems pretty good - even loads quicker than google on the work computer and displays a different background picture each day.

Not sure how good the search index is, whether or not it will live up to google I don't know, but I really like the image search results are displayed - lots of thumbnails to view without having to search through pages and pages of google results with a tiny thumbnail inbetween lots of white and text.

The jury is still out for me on this one, but I can see myself using it more in the future.

Do you think it would ever replace google?

I use SearchVote.com. It's a Microsoft-run site that allows you to enter a search term, and searches both Bing and Google, displaying the results in 2 frames on the page. You can then vote on which gave better results.

Cool little site, though Bing has still got some way to go :)

[disclaimer: Searchvote is an MS site, who I work for]

'bing' is only 'live' rebranded...

First there was Microsoft's MSN search, this eventually became Live Search www.live.com (a more catchy name for people to remember).

Initially (a couple of years back) I was quite impressed with 'live' - it found new sites very fast and the results were reasonably relevant.  Then for me, about a year ago 'live' lost the plot! See the MS forum for details - so it wasn't only my sites...

I still see a lot of traffic from 'bing/live' so I'm not discounting it completely!

'bing' is the latest reincarnation - trying to find a new generation of users?  The actual search results seem much the same to me (which is the important bit! - so I'll be sticking to Google) but the additional categories are new.

I guess for those that hadn't tried 'live' (which now redirects to 'bing') but are trying 'bing' then the re-launch has to some extent had the desired effect...

It's early days yet so hopefully MS will get to grips with the stuff under the hood as well as the shiny bits :¬)

To be honest, it shouldn't even be advertised yet at all - the search facility itself is really bad at the moment, seemingly worse than 'Live' at its current state. Yet, the other week, M$ decided to redirect everyone from live.com to this new ridiculous new site (which is still in Beta..).

The image search functions are quite good, but Google will likely better them soon. Every other link goes off to a completely different site.

This 'launch' is only giving it a bad name before the full version is even out for us UK people to try - not a great business plan really.

I think it has been under-advertised.  Saw an article in the metro about it's official launch last week.  I think old habits will die hard as google is programmed into my brains touchtyping sector (along with my password and email address...)

Let me know how you get on with it :)

Hm.  Would you rather be Binging or Googling?  Which sounds better?  :)

I'll give it a try but unless MS can come up with a great marketing strategy then I think people will stick to google.  There are so many other search engines out there and I tend to use Yahoo first as it gives more accurate results.

Google gives more results than others but half are either unsafe sites or very tenous to the initial search criteria.
