At this point would be worth me entering in my Ford Focus, only need a couple of cars not to finish and I would be in the points !.

Seriously, the outlook for the sport currently looks bleak. The FIA have already gone with Indycar style rule changes (single control tyre and proposed same engines etc.) to keep costs down.I reckon F1 machines will end up being basically bigger and faster GP2 cars. This system works fine in Moto GP (125cc,250cc & GP classes) and it would provide a great platform for drivers to progress through. This has got to be a better option than waiting for more car manufacturers to pull out due to the stupid budgets they currently need to stay in the sport.

Williams are the most likely to begin struggling badly financially. Toyota are currently cost cutting but they could easily pull out as they've been threatening to do for a while. Red Bull have been looking to sell the Toro Rosso team for a while.

Which apparently they have - Cosworth have the contract.

So, who's going to be next to go? Williams must be a prime choice. Sponsored by RBS (no 57% owned by the UK government) - I can't see them carrying on splashing the cash.

I can see Toyota going soon too. They were only involved as Honda were, so what happens now...?

Red Bull can't justify running two teams right now, surely?

We could be down to 5 teams in the next season or so....

And at least one less driver in 2010 if Alonso is to be believed when he says he'll walk out of F1 if they unify engines.

You could be the owner of an F1 team for £1!

Probably not but Honda are expected to announce on Friday that they are pulling out of F1 and are selling the team. F1 hitting hard times at the moment. Could be 18 cars or less come season start next year.

The Australian Grand Prix will not open the Formula One season in 2008. The honour goes to Bahrain next year the organisers of the Australian Grand Prix announced. The Australian Grand Prix will be held on the 16th of March 2008. The organisers of the Australian Grand Prix decided to pick a date halfway into March so it can organise the Formula 1 weekend with the popular Australian series of V8 Supercars.

Cutting it close , you aint kidding me, the last corner of the last lap he got 5th! Im so disappointed though, because I don't like Hamilton hes a nice guy and all that just something about him. I've always been a ferrari man since I was 6, I was soo happy when vettel over took him 2 laps from the end and fuming  at the end of the last lap :( but thats how it goes, just gonna have to put up with seeing Hamiltons face on everything and everywhere for the next year! Until Kubica or Massa eclipses his title next year :D He wont a hatrick of titles like he hopes, I dnt think he has amazing talent, I just think he's been lucky to go straight into a good car, good team etc, and had  abit of luck and bad luck i must add with some of the stewards decisions but hes been a hell of a lucky guy. Such a pity for ferrari and massa, felt so sorry for them when they were cheering thinking they had won the championship. Next year is Massa's year.

Wow that's cutting it close, poor Massa, he won and he lost and in his home country too :(

So now F1 is being shown on BBC again?

And your bonus question is, how many Brits have won Formula One World Championship? Don't worry if none of you know it :)

Congrats to the man, but did he really come 5th and still won it? That confuses me, I have to wonder why the guy in front even bothered :(

Apparently, 13.1 million viewers tuned in for the last lap drama with an average of 8.8 million over the course of the race.

Glock didn't slow down on purpose. I watch the timing screens and both Toyotas stayed out on dry tyres. They finished the race with a lap time within a tenth of a second of each other. Also, Glock had so much trouble getting the power down up the hill after the final corner, he finished over 5 seconds behind Hamilton.

A very exciting end to a excellent (on the whole) season.

It's good that we have a British Champion again, I have to say.

I do feel a little for Massa, he comes across as a top bloke, and he didn't put a foot wrong all weekend. Him & Hamilton both had their share of great drives, and ridiculous errors - both from themselves and the team. Massa stuck it in the wall in Australia, while Lewis stuck it in the back of Kimi in Canada.

Felipe had that ridiculous pitstop in Shanghai, while Lewis & the team bodged the decision on tyres completely in qualifying at Monza.

Hopefully next year will be even better. If BMW started on next years car early, and Renault can continue their upward trend there could be 4 or 5 in contention for the title. New aero regs will mess things up too.

I think I'm a bit more of a neutral now than I was when Damon Hill won it, as I was really really please back then. This year, if I'm honest, I didn't really mind who won it.

Perhaps I'm mellowing with age :-)

Not really, he had a good season, as did Massa.  They were the 2 strongest performers this year and both deserved the title.  Both also made mistakes during the season and had questionable rulings for or against them so it was either's championship.

McLaren did everything right this year, there's nothing you can say against them in the way that they played it.

I normally get bored senseless by F1 but yesterdays race was pretty damn good and exciting. Shame Hamilton won in my eyes as Yes he is British, but it has become more of a Celebrity thing than that of a Sport and it would of served him and Mclaren right if he came 6th.

Yep, a fantastic race.  I wouldn't be surprised if that got record numbers of viewers in the UK as the whole Hamilton hyped rolled on.

I see that there are the odd comments on the net suggesting that Glock was told to slow down to let Hamilton win, all unfounded.

Next year should be really interesting, if Renault move forward like they have been doing with Alonso and Massa and Hamilton both continuing their racing pace it should be a great competition.  Vettel is certainly one to watch (I chose him for my work Fantasy F1 this year).

Was a great race and well done Hamilton, he deserved it, he had points taken unfairly and he still won, so well done!

Next Season should be interesting, i think Masa will come back stronger, plus Vettel looked good.

So, Brazil this weekend and rain (or at least showers) forecast. The smart money would be on Massa or Kovalainen to go for the win but Hamilton likes to win. I would probably go for a Ferrari 1-2 with Hamilton in 3rd but who knows. Pressure does crazy things as does the weather.

I wonder if had it been Kovalainen giving up his position to Hamilton so he could get more points the stewards would have penalised them for it...

I got up an hour earlier to watch the Moto GP first,at least that was a race.China F1 was a real bore-a-thon,and where the hell was Massa ?.Some potential world champion,he was totally anonymous until he pulled that 'stunning pass' on his team mate ! (who pretty much had to park up and wait for him). It's surely Hamilton's title now,he just needs to stay out of trouble in Brazil.

Not a stellar race. Hamilton was easily the fastest and deserved to win. It's win or bust really for Massa now but I think McLaren, with the Kovalainen retirement, will be looking for Kovy to take the win away from Massa.

Should be an interesting Grand Prix. Depends on the weather but Hamilton is left open to a Ferrari challenge as Kovalainen failed to get in front of them.

Kubica needs a lot of help if he is going to be in the title hunt at the end of the race.

So Hamilton would have a 20 point lead with 20 points available.Meaning he would only be 1 point away from being world champion, regardless of how Massa scores in the final races.I was going to change my avatar but reckon I will keep it for a bit longer!.There has been none of this crap in Moto GP or World Superbikes, just good old fashioned wheel to wheel racing. Both series have been very exciting and produced worthy and totally respected world champions. If Massa is gifted the F1 crown due to the ridiculous penalties handed out to his opponents he will not be a worthy world champion IMO.

It now looks like Alonso is starting the fighting talk.  He's gone on record as saying he would gladly help Massa out against Hamilton to win the championship.

Of course, Alonso's been known to have the things he says twisted a bit due to his use of the English language, but as he still holds grudges towards McLaren (strange, considering it was apparently he who did some of the damage in the first place) it wouldn't surprise me.

Meanwhile it looks like Hamilton is suggesting he's won already, a dangerous thing to say when you look at the standings at the same time last year and what happened after that...

I must say I'm surprised by that. More concerning is the fact that Massa genuinely believes that he didn't deserve a drive through for taking out Hamilton. If anything, that's the only iron clad drive through they handed out.

Anyway, good race with plenty of action. China is pretty important now.

Bourdais's penalty is the biggest load of pro-Ferrari bull***t the FIA have ever come up with.Where was the guy exactly supposed to go ?.He came out of the pitlane held his line tight to the right only for Massa to come steaming in and they touched.Massa's fault 100% IMO.

He does disappoint me when he opens his mouth, but then I support him because of his on track exploits, such as 10 fastest laps in the last fifteen races which may not mean a lot this year but at least it shows he had the speed to do better (like in 2005).

> Massa seems more down to earth, but as you say he's been making

Well this is the first year he's had a real championship run.  He was out of the running after Fuji last year, so it'll be interesting to see how he deals with the added pressure of being the teams only chance, with Kimi likely to be out of contention at the same point this year (if he isn't already so).

> Alonso was somewhat grumpy and started to get that same complex
> when he was champion and I'm sure many others have in the past.

He does seem to be the fans' least favourite, with Montoya (when he was still in F1), then Kimi being next.  I think his English lets him down a bit, having in the past described every pole or win as a dream, which wasn't very inspirational.

> Maybe it's the sport which pushes the drivers into this mindset,

In L4yer Cake there's a bit about forgetting what $hit smells like, which is what I think happens if you don't have the right people round you, as Sir Jackie Stewart is probably the most modest multi world champion ever (although according to sky news he only won two :p).

I think many drivers do get a superiority complex.  Kimi only escapes some of the attention because he never talks, to anyone!  When he does express an opinion it's always the Ferrari line and a sense of 'we're right, we're Ferrari, so what!'.  Schummy was worse.

Massa seems more down to earth, but as you say he's been making mistakes he shouldn't be making at this stage in his career.  Alonso was somewhat grumpy and started to get that same complex when he was champion and I'm sure many others have in the past.

Maybe it's the sport which pushes the drivers into this mindset, or the people around them?

Felipe at Silverstone was just shocking.  Also go back to earlier races in the season when he was making rookie errors (much like Piquet Jr. has been doing all year).  The only reason I’d like him to take the wdc over Hamilton is because I think Lewis’ head would explode.  Did you hear him after the night race, talking about being stuck behind Coulthard, a fellow brit as if he was supposed to let him through.  Still though if he does take it, I won’t begrudge him, as he has the best work ethic out there by far.

Anyone deserves to win the championship if they drive well and get points, to be honest.

Alonso impressed me yesterday.  Yes, there was some luck in Renault's timing there but he drove a good race in a car that has so far underachieved.

Even though he has been the best (in terms of improvement) this season?  I don't think he deserves a WDC, but that's from a talent point of view, and not an attempt to make excuses just in case Lewis doesn't do it again which does seem to be a very British trait.
