Post any films you have seen recently (cinema, DVD or TV) along with a short review.
Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo Drift
7/10
Its rubbish really. The story is pathetic and the set pieces are unbelievable (the Japanese Yakuza settling a problem with some punk kid by having a car race? I dont think so), but the only reason you would go to see this film is for the cars anyway and the races all look great. It was as fun to watch as the other two, possibly even better than #2 and there is a nice surprise at the end for fans of the series.
If you are wanting some great acting, a heart wrentching story and some brilliantly detailed drama, then this isnt for you. If you want Japanese girls in short skirts driving customised sports cars then I think you'll love it.

The Omen
6/10
Well, a very disapointing remake of the quite good original horror. It seemed to rely on jumpy music and a dog to make the film "horror". The only reason for the 15 certificate is due to the quite gruesome death scenes in the film. Sided with a dry and predictable ending, it failed to impress and left me wanting my money back.
In all, a good film if you want to something to watch with your mates round and your not really paying much attention.

Hard Candy
6/10
A 14 year old girl tortures a pedophile.
Its a decent idea but it was boring. There was little tension in the film because you dont really care if the guy escapes because he's a pedo. The only part that has any tension is during the "operation" (I wont go into details for the sake of spoilers) but even then the girls cracks a joke and ruins the mood.
I didnt like either character so when it looked liek it could go either way towards the end I wasnt really bothered which one of them "won". It was orange wednesday though so I only paid £2. If it had been full price Id have given it 5/10.

Chineses martial arts love story; full of subtitles. I love this kind of thing. Its another Crouching Tiger or Hero and if that is your bag, then you'll love this. If you are not a fan of subtitled films then you should avoid.

Excellent follow up to the previous films with some great special effects. Ive not idea if it sticks to the comics because I dont read them but its another film that helps comic book nerds seem a little cooler.

Whisper of the Heart
8/10 I really enjoyed this film. it's a Ghibli film, the guys who created Spirited Away. It's a little slow paced and romantic compared to their other films but this still has the magic. I love Moon the cat who travels around on the train. :)

Missions Impossible 3
7/10
Quite a poor film, theres a very slow and played out story and it seems to have lost that Mission Impossible style of everything stacked against ethan and him pulling off some nifty tricks. The best bit was the Lamborghini Gallardo, until they blew that up. The characters are ok in it. It might just be me, but I think there strecthing Mission Impossible films a bit too far now, it's probably the same way the new bond film will go, because the originals are always better.

8/10 Another great Ghibli film, would be even greater watching it with kids. I'm a cat lover so I like it even more :D. A girl turning into a cat and traveling to a city of cats and being forced to marry the prince of cats. Woo!

Yesterday I went to see the Lakehouse.
7/10
Nice idea, I like the timeshifting films that make you work a little, but still allow you to keep on top of everything. This was one of those films.
A couple of flaws in the plot (other than the time-portal mail box :^) ), that the film tried to gloss over, but in general it was very nicely done.
It must be odd for Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock - every few years getting together with someone to make a film in which you pretend to fall in love with each other.
In a way, that almost mirrors one of the themes of the plot. An interesting touch.

16 Blocks
8/10
Latest Bruce Willis film in which he plays a drunk cop from New York (again) trying to get a witness to court without him being killed.
There were a few small twists but you could see them coming 15 blocks away (sorry, it had to be done). Nothing particularly original but it was nice to see an action film that didnt rely on huge explosions and and impossible stunts to keep me on the endge of my seat.

Behind Enemy Lines
9/10
Saw it on tv, right after Starsky & Hutch, another Owen Wilson flim. I think the agents are infusing the main circuit with the guy to somehow promote his new film coming out, "You, Me, and Dupree."
Anyhoo, this film was just as intriguing as the first time I saw it. Gene Hackman plays the shady, commanding officer of a Navy ship, conflicted between his duty and his word to keep peace to a foreign authority (who eventually turns-out to be corrupt), leaving his fighter pilot (Owen Wilson) out-on-the-lamb after being shot down by enemy forces in Bosnia.
I found this role for Gene almost identical to the character he played in Crimson Tide. He plays the jerky power-trippin' old fella with too much pride in his rankage and all the minions it allots to retire..really well.
(That's kind of reminding me of Freeola somehow..)
The focus on detail, like condensation on trip wire and soldiers taken in the waft of exploding mines, really engages the mind. I kinda tripped out with how a Bosnian village was taken out into the middle of nowhere and executed point blank (yeah, just a biiit too shockingly graphic of the truth)..and how Owen fell into the pit of dead bodies and covered himself with them to hide from the enemy soldiers. Ew. Kinda reminded me of a Rambo film..
Overall, an awesome flick of survival that you walk away from really glad you saw ..and, realizing that Owen is quite the diverse actor (who looks mighty fine in a flight suit..heh). Thumbs up. :)

It wasnt very scary and the young lad who was the son of the devil didnt feature as much as I thought he should.
I'm actually expecting the remake to be better than this original version.

Just dont go see it..
When you go see it, you think its going to be great, but it drags on, and on. It was 3 hours long, way too long a movie.
About half of the movie was just of superman posing... whoopdedo
Crap movie, he should have died at the end, but he didnt..
He looked plastic, and too girly to be superman..

Superman Returns
7/10
I saw it at the IMAX cinema in Manchester and it had bits in 3D which was cool.
It was a bit rubbish really. Superman flys about a bit saving people then fights the bad guy at the end.
*****spoilers*****
At the end, Superman somehow manages to lift up an entire island made of kryptonite and throw it into space even though 20 minute earlier he nearly died when coming into contact with a 6 inch shard of the green rock. And why does he have a son? Thats just poo.

Irreversible
8/10
Graphic shock-violence as only the French (and probably some other people) can do.
Scenes shown in reverse sequence, Memento style. It starts off as a gritty, violent affair, as you piece together a tale of revenge and the events that triggered it.
You also see someone beaten in the head with a fire extinguisher until eventually his face caves into his skull.
After (or chronologically, before) the violence, it turns into a fascinating examination of a relationship juxtaposing the 'nice guy', the 'bad boy' and the serial offender.
Definitely something to watch once.
Probably wouldn't want to watch it twice.

It was a hell of a lot longer than I expected and with no real reason to be. Although it was funny in places, and Johnny Depp was as great as always, it just wasn't as good as the first one and it left me feeling slightly cold.
Off to see Miami Vice on Friday. Looks great.

Finally watched Oldboy last night.
Stunning film. Really messed up, but it drew you in like the overblown hollywood stuff just can't. By objective standards it wasn't that violent... at least not massively so. And not really that graphic. But like blokey said, 'Imagination can make you shrivel. Stop imagining and you can be free from fear' (or something to that effect).
The fight scene in the corridor was probably the best I've seen in any film, the guys just knew exactly how to carry it off, and it was so refreshing compared to the usual hollywood or martial arts stuff.
But man was it messed up too.

Watched "The Ghost; aka Ryeong" last week.
Korean horror film about a girl suffering from amnesia. A bunch of her class mates start getting killed off and she knows she's somehow connected, but can't figure out why.
Can't be bothered to go into too much detail at the moment as it's late and I'm tired.
Just if you like horror films, go watch this one, it's great!!

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
You've got to love Monty Python. I haven't seen this one in awhile and it's one of my favourites. My brother is still quoting from it even today. Ni!
I loved the Black Knight scene and John Cleese running towards the castle, heh. It's a wonderful film, something you can still enjoy today. I think when I first saw it though, I was a little disappointed by the ending. I guess I wanted them to beat up the French ^^ heh.
9/10 a classic

Uncle Buck
I've always been a fan of John Candy, I loved him in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. He was great in Spaceballs too. It really is a shame he passed away. I've yet to see the film he was making at the time he died.
This is a nice movie, stars your Home Alone favourite, Macaulay Culkin. There's one teary bit when he's sitting in the car with the kids just about ready to go to the race tracks when the eldest kid has disappeared and he realises what he's doing.
We should have more nice comedies like Uncle Buck. It's a great film.

Terminator 2
Arnie is back! Terminator turned out to be a big hit and everyone was glad to see a sequel. I think this is one of those rare occasions where the sequel was better than the original. Not that the original wasn't great, because it was. The liquid Terminator was just great and back then the graphics were really stunning.
It's a great movie, not sure about the 3rd movie though. She was hot and all but I dunno. In the end, it turns out you can't go back and change the past. Making their efforts pointless.

Wallace & Gromt: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
There's no wonder why it got such good reviews when it came out. It's a great movie and it's a real joy to watch. I remember watching the 3 W&G short films years ago. They just seemed to get better and better. I was a little worried when I heard about the movie. I didn't think it would do well, but in the end it turn out great.
I hope to see more W&G in the future :)

Great final offering of this great series, I've always hoped for a 4th installment but I don't think Michael J Fox can work anymore and a different actor in his role wouldn't really be the same.
