Some fairly high up bloke in E-On has basically said that high fuel costs this winter will make them more money. Unsurprisingly this wasn't met with the best reaction from various places.

Personally, I think he's a plank, and surely it proves that the energy companies are passing on more than the fuel rise to the customers. For example. If gas ot whatever rises by 5p a unit, if E-On only pass that 5p on, then they don't make any more money. So for prices rises to make them more cash, surely they must be passing on a marked up rise to us? I.e gas goes up 5p, but we get charged 6p more.

The other side of this is though, how many households could do more to help themselves with their electricity bills. Not leaving stuff on standby and all the rest of it. Putting a jumper on instant of instantly turning the thermostat up. Only boiling the amount of water you need in the kettle etc. Only put the washing machine on when you've got a full load.

All that kind of stuff can make a difference. I'm not taking about never putting the heating on, or taking cold showers etc, but I'm sure each and every household could do a little more, without too much effort.

How many people on here pay their own bills? Have you made any changes? Can you foresee yourself making changes over the next few months?

If you don't pay the bills yourself, do you worry about leaving the telly or lights on, or as someone else is paying, do you not bother?

My personal take is that we've had cheap energy and cheap food for such a long time, that people haven't worried about wasting it. Now comes a time when we can't afford to squander it as much, and it's hitting home.
