Original Post:
Does anyone have any advice or assistance for connecting the Xbox 360 to the internet using a laptop (running Vista) and an ethernet cable?

The laptop accesses wirelessly and apparently it is possible to connect the 360 to the laptop using an ethernet cable to access Xbox Live. Have looked at a few suggestions on the net but none seem to have worked for us so far.

Ok, the ethernet cable would be better plugged directly into the router but this is in another room and quite a length of cable would be required.

Would appreciate any advice regarding a working solution.

Ta, DL :-)

You need to set up ICS - internet connection sharing.

Some details here

Not the best way to connect though - when using this method you cant access live and use your computer to access the internet at the same time.

You could try using ethernet power line adaptors, you can pick them up at around £20, not sure how much the 360 wireless adaptor is but it isn't very reliable for holding a connection.

Thanks gr13ve for your advice but we have already tried ICS on the laptop and not getting anywhere :-(

What are ethernet power lines and how would it/they help?

Theyre basically power adaptors with an ethernet port on them and the data is carried via the electricity line. You would require 2 - one in the room with your 360 and one next to your router.

Nice one Gr13ve - looked on Google and found exactly that, a really neat idea. Just need to work out how many we need as I may extend the idea to include all the PCs aswell.

(Make note to self - remember to get MAC address of the hoover) :-D
