I swear I've just been playing Doom 3 for the last half an hour.
It's basically Doom 3 with different enemies.

Can't say I've seen much of Quake 4 that suggests anything other than Doom 3 with different enemies.
Prey looks alright though, I just hope that Id include more than waves of stupid monsters to kill, or at least take a tip from FEAR and add some uber AI.

Who the hell has the resources to put 8 years into a game?

With lit outdoor areas. Who hoo. I think I'll cancel that download now, as I got incredibly bored with Res of Evil and didn't inish it (a first for me). If Q4 is basically Doom3 with new enemies, I can't see myself even getting close to completing it. Doom3 turned into a chore but I kept going as I'd been waiting for it for year.
Doom3 / Res of Evil - "Wow, an empty room. I wonder if something's going to trigger an...yep there we go, how surprising"
Snore. Doom3 is the gaming equivalent of a supermodel. Pretty to look at and ok to spend a few hours with, but ultimately vacant and dull.

I'm not won over by any of these games. Those screens and footage of Enemy Territory, however, look abso-bloody-lutely spiffing.

The multiplayer seems to play alot faster than the single player game and it would have been bloody brilliant if the stupid game decided to have bots.
I hate games that are released without bots.
Gahhhh.

Don't stop it. The multiplayer public patch fix works so we can all play online at some stage.

Just played a bit of quake 4 and i have to say i'm loving it.
The gameplay is fast paced and the weapons (i've only experienced the pistol, machine gun and shotgun so far) feel great, there is plenty of recoil and they don't sound bass-ie like a lot of games they sound raw and naughty.
The squad i'm running around with at the moment are pretty good and react quickly to enemies and use cover well. some pretty good fire fights so far.
This is completely different gameplay and style to Doom 3.

I can see this making a very good BF2 sytle game when they release Quake Wars. The Hover tank is pretty good but it turns on it's own to which ever direction you point the turret which makes it a bit odd after 20 odd hours in a bf2 tank.
Still good fun though and last for quite a while so far and it gives you a nice varitie(sp?) of enemies to fight with it.
The main machine gun feels like a good meaty version of the spec-op rifle in BF2 - which roxor.

Yeah, but isn't quake wars a mod? Who's to say the vehicles will behave the same way as Q4?

They need to get Quake Wars out early next year, as i have to say quake 4 is starting to look a bit dated, i'm still loving the graphics but at times there are points when i've thought in the game, 'that looks a bit crap' or 'why isn't it like this?' They are tiny things like a wire here or there that isn't 3d when i thought, it would have looked pretty good if it was.
My character doesn't cast a shadow, which i thought was a real shame and my flash light doesn't generate shadows of objects i shine it at but all the NPC flashlights do :(
Possibly the best function of the game, perhaps any game ever in the world is, that when you point your gun at a team mate your gun doesn't fire as it reconises them. When you get in a fire fight and you can spray around your teammates to shoot over their heads and through groups of them but it will never allow a bullet that would hit them to leave the gun.
This has probably saved me from friendly fire a lot through the game as i tend to run at enemies all guns blazing even though it would be easier to sit back with the squad and all fire at them.

Shows how much of that game i played.
It seems like a better feature in a furturistic game than a history based one.

If you get far away enough you can shoot your team-mates on CoD2. Shoot them in the face and they fall down, stand back up and start aiming at the Nazi's again.
You don't see courage like that any more.

I'm actually prefering Q4 to F.E.A.R.
I'm bored of fears single enemy already. There's no variation. Nice scares and impressive AI, but it's just a little too pedestiran and samey for me.
Q4 is feeling like a cross between Halo (Dunno why), Call of Duty and D3. It's superb so far, paced perfectly and incredibly good fun.
Q4 screenies.

Not unless you're looking for a storyline and plot as opposed to spawnKillDeath for a change.
[edit] The opening assult event on the first of the three towers is superb. It's nice to get suprised by the imagination some developers show, and especially wringing such impressive results out of the limited Doom3 engine.

Incorrect.
Enemy Territory : Quake Wars is being 'made' by the same people that put together the incredible RtcW Enemy Territory. They are called Splash Damage, a UK developer. They have direction from id, but as far as game content it's going to be completely different from Quake 4. It's true that it will be based on the warring marines & strogg, but the battle is in a different location. I believe in both Quake 2 and 4, the battle takes place on the Strogg homeworld. Quake Wars depicts the prequel to both, and takes place on Earth - essentially where the whole thing kicks off. I know a few of the chaps personally from Splash Damage and believe me when I say they really know how to make a great game.
I'm looking forward to this one, I think raven did a 'triffic job on Quake 4, what with all the fans to please and so on, but expect Quake Wars to be a totally different experience altogether.

Thats interesting that it dampens your hopes. The original game by id (Return to castle Wolfenstein) was a flop online, whereas Enemy Territory was nominated for a BAFTA and won several game of the year awards and was Splash Damage's first published title. I don't think people should be looking at smaller developers these days and always expecting rubbish. Look at EA - perfect example of why bigger isn't always better, they prove time and time again that they just don't care about the gamer, why would they have to? The smaller developers often have a great great deal of talent, they have to compete with the big boys who can sell games through advertising campaigns alone.
I'm predicting that Quake Wars will outsell Quake 4 at least two-fold, anyone for a wager ;d
