Ive been waiting a while to see what comes out on it and only now is it starting to catch my interest, games id buy would be stuff like Drakes Fortune, and Lego Indy, and probably the new Civ game, but is this enough to justify a rather expensive console?

I'm quite tempted to pick up one of the 160gb versions when they're out here, though at the moment theres still not enough exclusive games out yet to make a purchase that sensible when I've got a 360.
Apart from Little Big Planet theres not a lot to drop my money on yet. Hopefully we'll see some Nippon Ichi games, and even more so a game from Team Ico, creators of Ico, and one of my favourite games ever (imo!), Shadow of the Colossus.

There are some great games coming out over the next few months so you wont be disapointed!

2 days down the road and I have to say.............pure class! Not a bother setting it up to pick up my wireless internet, and Lego Indy in particular is an absolute peach of a game, not to be missed! So glad I bought the PS3, some quality of picture and sound!

Well I went and got one of the backward compatible ones with the bigger HD, with Indy, Simpsons, Civ (collect on release next Friday) and Drakes Fortune for 250 euro the lot after trade in, not bad at all!

It's not so much the cost of Blu Ray players, but the abilities. Most of the cheaper ones won't have very good upgradability or ethernet ports, where as the PS3 is the most up-to-date and this matters if you're at all interested in extras or downloadable content.
I'd also argue that there are some good games out already and if you don't already have a 360 and prefer the titles on the PS3 there are certainly plenty of games to choose from.
If you have a 360, though, then things are slightly different as the majority of games on both platforms are multi-platform now (or will be soon) so it's just down to whether you want the few extra exclusive titles on the PS3 platform.

Exactly! I'm shallow, so the PS3 is perfect for me :)
Plus I find the 360 a bit a child's toy, and I hate its menu system. Small details of course, but still.

So the PS3 is like a Mercedes Benz :overpriced, overrated, cost a fortune to own and while technically very impressive people who own them are generally very boring !!.
While the Xbox 360 is like a Mazda MX-5 which is of course the ultimate hairdressers car, rubbish performance and generally owned by girls (and blokes you probably wouldn't go out for a drink with !!).

My view in a car analogy:
Xbox 360 - A Mazada MX-5, fairly priced, every bloke with too much testosterone wants one. They work just great these days and are quite sporty in a straight line affair.
PS3 - Elegant, and bit more polished, and a tad pretencious, like a Mercedes-Benz. Yes it's a bit more expensive, but it's good investment. You feel the business if you own one, like you've bought something a bit more special.

They're not that difficult to get hold of. Sony has been talking about reintroducing backwards compatibility to the new machines recently anyway. Personally i'd wait, there arent that many reasons to buy a PS3 yet.

Are the older backwards compatible PS3's hard to get a hold of? Id love to get one so I could ditch my PS2 as I still play LMA 2003 (dont even ask what year it is now in the game!) and Age of Empires among others on it.

I remember what really pushed me towards the XBOX was Dead Rising, Gears of War and Crackdown. (I absolutely loved Dead Rising). Admittantly when I was younger I used to be more interested in supporting Sony just because. But now I'm far more interested in quality of games than brand name.
Having a replacable hard drive isn't a biggie for me, I've not yet used my XBOX hard drive so I don't see that changing.
Singstar isn't my genre, played it once when a group of friends had a house gathering.
I too have had very little problems with my XBOX so far, but it is always a fear. I didn't like paying £50 to connect wirelessly. Plus the XBOX sounds like a small aircraft when it is running games. XBOX live is a bit silly paying for what is essentially a glorified messenger service, but it runs so well and I really cannot complain about it. (Except I cannot have private voice chat rooms with more than one person!!!! Seriously that sucks)
Don't have a bluetooth set so not really an advantage. Don't have HD tv so no advantage there either.
So what it comes down to is games games games. Resistance is alright but it's no killer app. GTA and COD are on both set-ups. (But would definitely be killer apps if they weren't) Haze i've heard is alright but not selling the console to me. Final Fantasy is awesome but hasn't blown me away since the playstation (X was awesome but still something wasn't quite right).
So what this boils down to is Metal Gear Solid 4. Now the following monday after it is released I have an exam, and I have this horrible feeling that on the way home I may just be stopping off to purchase myself a console and the above said game. (Quick question are the dual shock controllers out yet?)

So what do you play? PC? Wii?
There is no denying that the games on both consoles are good.
The likes of Halo 3, Drakes, Haze, COD4
all amazing games and i think both consoles are fantastic pieces of equipment, and it boils down to personal preferance on genre of games, styles and even companies. I personally prefer sony

Actually, Blu Ray is still better quality on SD than standard DVD, not by much, though.
The fact that you can change the HD for any standard laptop Hard Drive is great, loads of storage space without having to resort to external drives.
Singstar is even better than the PS2 version, with the online store getting loads of classic tunes and videos from users that make you laugh out loud (think Youtube crossed with Singstar). Drake's Fortune and even Motorstorm, a launch title that has since had a whole load of new tracks and vehicles. Warhawk is a great online multiplayer game too.
Buzz coming out soon, you could argue that it was a more stable machine too, but I've got no problem with my 360 so far.
PS3 is also compatible with any Bluetooth headset, controllers charge from the console as standard, wireless as standard, really easy to set up to stream media and even copy it to the PS3 internal HD. Home, LBP and Wipeout HD will eventually hit the PSN, it already has some good little games. Can use the US, Australian and Asian PSN stores to get demos and videos (loads of music videos on the Aussie site).
Can download demos and full games from PS3 to PSP and watch PS3 videos on your PSP, even contacting the PS3 from somewhere else in the world to check the store or watch videos via the PSP.
So, yeah, it's a good console. It just doesn't have the games line-up that the 360 has, which is it's biggest problem.

Ahh but Metal Gear Solid 4 :( I love the metal gear solid series. It this the only reason why I would get a PS3 at the moment. Don't care for this "home" thing looks nothing more than a glorfied online sims at the moment.
Come on guys what games are really worth getting that are out now on the playstation 3!
There must be some games I'm sleeping on that are really worth getting.
I've played resistance it didn't blow me away.
P.S. Has anyone seen much about Left for Dead on XBOX looks like it could be a really good game.

It seems like you've got the immense 360 setup right there. If you've not hi-def kit to hook the PS3 up to it would probably be a bit of a waste right now. PS3 media, wireless, PSN - you've got the equivalents already.

Hmm now this is a toughie. You see the only game I want to get is Metal Gear Solid. Nothing else at the moment stands out for me on the Playstation. Got Call of Duty, Got GTA.
Are there any other aspects to the PS3 that really sell it? What killer games are there that distinguish it from the competition.
I already have the wireless adapter for my XBOX, I have a live account. I use my XBOX as a media centre too. I don't currently have HD facilities in my house, so Blu-ray makes sod all difference at this point in time.
I need just that little gentle push and I'd be sold but as it stands I'm just sort of tinkering on the edge.

Good point you made there McLong on the quietness of the system. Noisy consoles irritate the hell out of me and was one of the reasons I stopped using my PS2, my cat thought it was purring and went to sleep on it!
Is the PS3 much quieter?
I dont get to play games that often what with work, so I dont need a huge range of games out right now that Id buy, but of course would need something that appeals in the future every few months.
What kind of peripherals are a necessity for PS3 as well?

PS3 gets my vote for a few reasons:
It has a wireless adapater built-in.
The online play is free (although not as good as xbox live).
You can change the harddrive without voiding the warranty.
Blu-ray hi-def drive.
Any bluetooth headset will work.
Pretty quiet, so fairly decent as a music/video player too.
Only £30 (ish) more than the 360 elite.
Edit: But whether it's worth buying just yet? Not too sure. Depends how many games are available on the PS3 at the moment that you think you'll play. The 360 has a much better range of games, but it will only get better for PS3.

To be honest they've both got great games, I prefer the PS3 as I've always had playstations so am use to the controller etc. The plus side of the PS3 is if you play games online the PSN won't charge you but playing on Xbox live costs money. The PS3 is a great piece of kit, blue ray player, games console music and video player. Great if you want to transfer video files from your pc to watch on a normal tv screen with the use of a due mem stick. (if you've got a psp then you should already have a memory stick).
The PS3 is more expensive to buy but in the long run the games are usually the same price for new releases. My opinion go for the PS3.

I dont want to cause a console war but i prefer Playstation - at the moment the 360 has more games and is cheaper.
But the playstation is just a prefered brand and the console as a whole - in the long run i think it will be the better console.
If i had enough money i would have both because there are games on each i want!
Really you need to play on each and see what you like, think about what genre of games you like etc etc
It is all about your opinion in the end!

Another vote for the 360 here but the PS3 is not in anyway a bad console. The 360 is cheaper, has tonnes of great games many of which are available very cheaply. Most of the cheap import sites will sell 360 games to UK customers but not Sony products (after they nailed the coffin lid down on Lik-Sang).A couple of my mates bought PS3'S,one sold his the other rarely uses it.Things may change in the future as more games become available for it.At that point I may consider one myself. For me though I just can't wait for Gears Of War 2.

Ive been waiting a while to see what comes out on it and only now is it starting to catch my interest, games id buy would be stuff like Drakes Fortune, and Lego Indy, and probably the new Civ game, but is this enough to justify a rather expensive console?
