So, anyone getting this? Mines pre-ordered. I'm not sure it's going to work as well as previous installments, with bikes and everything. The offline multiplayer isn't as good either, according to some reviews. The online component is supposed to work very well.
Ah well, will have to wait and see.

Just got a breath of life of this game today, online with my mate, on the Coconut Mall track.
Some idiot comes along on as we're all about to go up the escalators, and rams me and him onto the slow side, which puts us both nicely to 11th and 12th.
Anyways, It comes down to the last lap, and I've only pulled it back to 9th, and the beauty of a game gives me invinsiblity for the car park section. I thrash my way through laughing manically to myself.
I'm now second, last corner, a blue shell comes shooting past and hits the girl with a rating of 8600-odd. Oh the luck, I shoot past her and straight into first =D
Joy, ladies and gentlemen. Joy.

If you're on Wii Connect24 there's a message waiting for you this morning with the first Mario Kart challenge. Haven't been able to have a go at it yet though.

So far I've been unlucky, I've only ever had one on ones against some of Japan's finest.
Needless to say, I get my a*se handed to me.

It is fine, i played loads of 12 people races. never had lag, i got disconnected and lost like 110 points, but im back up to 5700 with my gold wheel so its all good.
Just unlocked the Turbo Blooper kart as i aint done much one player and it seems to be pretty good.
I would recommend doing one player first (unlike me) just so u get used to it and dont lose points to start with, plus getting better karts will let you be better!

I've had no lag when I've played. The biggest race I was in was a 10 player race. All went very well. I was disconnected once (cost me a load of points) but other than that, no problems at all.

Has anybody played any 12 player Wi-Fi races yet? I'm wondering what the lag is like. I know with Smash Bros., as soon as you get one guy in the match with a bad connection it screws everything up. Since it happens in Smash with only 4 people, the chances of getting womeone with a bad connection when there are 12 seem pretty high.
I'm in Canada so I can't get Kart until April 27. You guys in the UK are lucky :)

I like bikes for handling, but then karts just seem to be the one i go with more (dont know why)
I always use Yoshi or Mario (yoshi my fav) and tend to use the normal kart at the mo. Just as i get used to it. tend to hit a wall here and there so need good acceleration and a decent top speed.
And to answer part of my own question - apparently the gold wheel is obtained when u only use the steering wheel (which i am) but i think it is for a duration of time. if you use anything else even for 1 race it goes back to white
thats what i heard so should get me a gold wheel soon i hope.

Had a go at this for a couple of hours. Played it safe and went with the Gamecube controller. Did the first 4 50cc Grand Prix and apart from a total brain blockage on Ghost Valley where I couldn't remember the track, I won every other race. I got 2 1 star rank, an A and a C (damn you Ghost Valley). The tracks, I think, have been widened, probably so you can drift comfortably.
I had a few minutes before dinner so I had a quick time trial. I picked Peach Beach since I had played that track to death on Double Dash. I thought I would be adventurous and race the ghost that was available. 1m34 something I think it was.
I pressed the accelerator too early and bogged down on the line. By the end of the first lap, I was 2 seconds behind. Despite my terrible first and 3rd laps, I beat the ghost with a 1m33.9. That is a Rank B time apparently. I had a look at the Worldwide times and I was definitely in the top 3rd of the field.
All going pretty well so far. I'll have to fix my wireless settings as it wasn't working (again) but I'll get it sorted. Where do you find out your code? I couldn't find it, although I didn't actually look. :)

I know it may sound like I'm going over the top, but it's the first game in many years that I'm actually looking forward to getting home to play again.
Unforutnately, with an action packed weekend, it's probably going to be sunday afternoon before I get chance again.

Get it as soon as you can, it's great. The wheel really does work well. I haven't tried any other control method yet to be fair, but I don't feel the need to. Some may argue it's a gimmick, and maybe it is, but it's one that works very well once you've done a few races to get used to it.
I've figured out the powerslidey boost thing too. You have to select manual drifting, rather than automatic. Not sure of the best character for online play. You pick the character before the track is choosen, so it's a bit of a lottery. Not really used the bikes yet, want to finish the 50cc cups 100% first before moving up.
The MK channel initially is only available through the game, you have to install it if you want it as a standalone channel on the main screen. You can download ghost data to try and beat, and there will also be competitions in the future, though as of last night there were none available.
Online is very slick and quick to get into a game. Although I imagine that it will be even more busy this weekend than it was last night so it'll be interesting to see if that affects the play.
You can race or do the battle mode online. For each you start with 5000 points. If you do well, you gain points, if you don't, you lose points.
When looking for online games you can choose to search via all games worldwide, games just on your continent or games with people off your friends list. Unfortunately, it's not the friends who are already on your Wii list, but you get another number that you have to swap as well which is game specific.
All in all, it's the first game I've played online with Wii, and it works just as well and is just as lag free as anything I've played on Xbox Live, only without the voice chat. For me, that's not an issue, but it might be for others.

Just got hold of Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 in Blockbuster as well, so much better than the first one and great fun.

Just been playing this, great fun. Typing this on Wii so will be brief. Wheel works well, takes a little getting used to. Still can't powerslide.
Online slick and easy to use. Have to enter friend codes to play specific people. Mine is 3007-8201-1620. Feel free to add me.

The brother in law of a mate of mine works for a distributor and has apparently had his since tuesday evening. The wheel works very well, or so he says, and only takes a couple of races to get used to. All in all it's a top game.
I trust my mate, but have never met the brother in law, so make of that what you will.
