I got the game yesterday, and I have to say it's supurb.
Pros:
Very fun
Good voice recognition (for the most part, my dogs hardly ever listen when I call them, but there are other ways to get their attention)
Quite alot of stuff to do, get a better house etc..
The graphics are amazing and great animation.
Lots of items to collect, and practicing with your dog/s for comps.
Cons:
I couldn't see myself playing it as much as I do now in about 1 or 2 months.
All in all it's a great game, but if you like AW, then obviously get AW:DS over this. I'm absolutly loving this game.

Don't forget it's a US game, so you have to use a US accent for the voice recognition to work!! I hope you can do one. ;' }

see you think you're being the cool one who's astounded at my stupidity, when in actual fact, anyone can see that I wasn't being serious, and it was you who looked stupid with your "err, no you don't". Quick, go back and edit it!

Heh, I got it too today, along with my DS and stuff. Been messing around with my Retriever just now.
I wouldn't call the graphics "amazing", but they do the job.

So, I've taken Sasha for walks and stuff, she knows loads of commands and I've given here a good few scrubs. Time to call it a day.

How much does the jumped up Virtual Pet set you back anyway?
I remember Catz and Dogz on the PC years ago, just reminds me of a 3D version of that :).

I got it off a local importer for £25, so not too bad. It's a lot more personal than the Petz franchise though - leave it on and it'll crave attention, just like a real pet. But with pixels!111

All I can remember about Nintendogs is the E3 conference where Miyamoto couldn't get it to work :).

I can imagine you'll spend Months on a pet, only to have the Vet put it down for no reason.
A Marmite game, this. I'm one of the haters.

But you can "touch" the dog.
I haven't got a DS because it doesn't really appeal.

Meh ... I would buy it, only I've had enough of shallow games already. It's all too much, I want MK and Animal Crossing.

Apparently there is a lot of depth to it.
But I haven't played it and nor do I own a DS to truly make a comment.

Are there any internet reviews out yet?
I mentioned this game to the girlfriend because she likes these virtual pet things.

There are loads of internet reviews. Check out IGN, Gamespot, everywhere you'd look if you're after a review.

Odd. I looked down IGN's main review list and couldn't find it, that's why I came back and asked.

There's not that much depth to it, by it's very nature. You don't go adventuring with your dog around a magical universe of wonders, you teach it a few tricks, you make it happy and you take it to a show and win a prize, then repeat those themes endlessly over and over.

Yeah, there isn't that much depth. It's still a good game, I only play about 20 minutes and then I put it down and play some later on.

I just got my copy and I'm impressed. I've only played it for an hour or so but I've managed to teach my dog a couple of tricks and buy some new toys.
The voice recognition is good - not great, but it works. Usually. The graphics are supreme - easily the best I've seen on the DS as yet.
It's very much a pick-up-and-play title, I don't see myself playing it for longer than, say, half and hour at a time, so it is perfectly suited to the DS.
There seems to be lots to buy so perfectionist me will want to upgrade everything to the max etc.etc. And I got the game for free! So definately no complaints here.

Update on this. My Siberian Husky has won the disc competitions right up to Championship, but always fails on the final hurdle. It's kinda impossible to get 50 points in 60 seconds, stupid Nintendo. And the 3 a day limit is CRAP.

3 A day, yes. I guess you can set the clock foward, but who gives a damn. I only played it ten minutes a day anyway, even in the bog I get bored.

No. Novelty value wears off so so fast. Bought, then sold 10 days later.
PS don't buy it
