I think I'm going to ruin your thread here, but I think its all down to the type of game that I'm playing.

For first person shooters, then I think its very difficult to beat the Keyboard and Mouse. The accuracy that you can have whilst using a mouse, is just unachievable on any type of joystick (in my opinion).

Saying this, sports games like Fifa are (realistically) only playable on a Controller, therefore consoles win this time around (yes I could use a PC controller, but its not the same!).

Overall I prefer to game on my PC, mainly because of the money that I spent to build my latest rig. But mainly due to piracy, games are being released for consoles rather than the PC, which is another push for me to play games on my console :(.

You aint ruining anything m8, i totally agree with you, I prefer my PC for gaming due to mainly playing shoot em ups and strategy games, I only use my xbox for Pro evo and streaming music from a network drive to my cinema surround system, to be honest, if it wasn't used to stream music my xbox would be as idle as my Wii.

Nothing compares to a custom built gaming PC.

I am, i have to say now, Pro-Console when it comes to gaming. Yes, there are pro's and cons to PC's and Consoles. One of the main ones i've heard is the accuracy of FPS shooting with a mouse, as moto has said aswell. But that is just an advantage of PC gaming, but everyone uses a mouse, so it's not like it's any easier. I prefer consoles myself. Consoles are primarily built for gaming, although now they seem to be fitting them with every ability, from downloading movies to burning toast. But PC's are used for alot more things.

I cannot doubt that PC's definitely have the best graphics. BUT, with cost comparison, the likes of the Xbox and the PS3 are so much cheaper, and there's not too much difference. High Def. Call of Duty doesn't look too bad for me, and it's cost me alot less than it would've done to make a custom top of the line PC.

PC's also require alot more fiddly diddly. Load up times are far quicker with consoles, you have to install all these secondary programmes, such as your graphics card driver etc. Games actually have to be installed onto a hard drive, instead of the game just running straight from the off. Consoles are much more plug in and go IMO.

When it comes down to gaming, you can't beat Game Consoles. They've got Game in there name for a start, instead of being called a Personal Computer. What so 'gamey' about that?

Between consoles, it's a toughy to call, but presently, i'm an Xbox, and partial Wii guy. PS3's are just like the Frosties and Crunchy Nut problem. "Frosties is just Crunchy Nut for low lifes". "Well Crunchy Nut is just Frosties for w*nk*rs". I wouldn't go as far as to offend PS3 owner, but they do seem to more purpose built for the rich kids. (Example- Bluray- "I've got 20 more pixels than you peasant").

Of course, when i got an xbox, i went for the best. the big 120 gb, gorgeous Xbox Elite, partially because at the time, it had larger storage than the PS3. Sure, it makes abit of a racket, but i love it.

Got to agree with Chris.Gaming PC's are not great value for money when compared to modern consoles. My brother basically had to rebuild his system (processor,RAM,graphics card etc.) just to play one game (think its was called Crysis or something ?).Personally I could not be bothered. When I buy a game I just want to stick the disc in the machine and play the damn thing. There is very little difference in the gaming performance of the Xbox 360 and PS3 IMO.But if there was ever a competition for the greatest amount of idiots you will ever have the misfortune to have to play a video game against, then Xbox live would walk it !.Borrowed a Wii earlier in the year off my mate and personally thought it was pants. After 20 mins I was bored of it.Suppose its OK for kids though (although my daughter didn't play on it for much longer than I did) ?.

When i say partial Wii guy, i don't mean it makes me go "Ooh, i'm bored, i know, i'll turn the Wii on, that's good." It's rather when i've got other people with me, it's better to play it with somebody else. Even then, Wii session will last about half an hour. The Wii just doesn't cut it. Think of the primary gamer audience. Think of the amount of them who are 'largely built' middle aged men? They won't want to play a game if they have to move. Think of the amount of them who are kids/young teenagers, they want to be adult, so they're going to play the likes of Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty. Little kids sure get the most entertainment, but surprisingly, kids demand alot of variation (eg. look at the amount of colours you find on kids toys, the amount of shapes). Games can get repetitive and boring. I don't see who Nintendo are aiming at to be quite honest.

Depends what games you're interested in really.  PC and consoles offer different gaming experiences, always have done.  Although PCs probably offer greater coverage.

One thing I would say though, the cost arguments are a bit of a red herring.  Just because you can spend £1000 building a PC, doesnt mean you need to.  Yeah I can spend £300 on a graphics card if I wanted and I can play games in resolutions that consoles can only dream of.  On the other hand, my current machine thats used for gaming cost £300 in total.  And its hardly a million miles away from what a console produces.  Add in the fact that over its lifetime, I'll consistently pay less for the PC version of a game than the console equivalent and its not so easy to claim console gaming is cheaper.

PC Gaming beats console gaming hands down. Better controls for FPSs with all the top titles appearing for Windows i.e. Bioshock, COD, Crysis. then you have simulation and rts such as the Sims or Command and Conquer which end up being terrible to play on consoles.

And don't even get me started on the amount of freeware on PC. The cost argument is lessened even further when you consider you can play versions of Quake, Battlefield and Wolfenstein for free. I could live off freeware to be honest.

I use my Xbox 360 mainly for fighting and sports games, and my wii for Nintendo exclusives

I believe that in the longrun, Consoles are far more enjoyable for Games, partially because they're built for gaming primarily. PC's have that much tied in with them, the possibility of a malfunction is alot higher, what with the likes of viruses that you wouldn't find lurking in Xbox Live. As i said, yes FPS's are easier to play on a PC, BUT, the main flaw with the point as i've already said is that everybody is using a mouse. Like with anything, the control strick takes getting used to. It actually takes more skill to kill somebody on a console FPS because the controls are harder (ie. they're more of a challenge, making it more fun). Then again, the controls aren't too easy on the PC. With a console controller, the controller is suited to sit in your hand, and so you can access all the buttons easier. The odds of hitting the wrong button on a console controller are very low, as the buttons are perfectly set to be in position of one of your fingers. Compared to the keyboard used in PC gaming, the odds of hitting the right button are 101:1. The button right next to the move forward button might well close the program down. There are just too many buttons to remember.

In conclusion, PC's are for office workers to make Excel sheets on whilst gawping at the partially sexy woman across the other desk.

But when they get home to their console, that's when the game taps flow! OH YEH! >:D

Lol have seen so many of these arguments online, on forums I have visited.

And I shall put my opinion in like so many millions of other mindless users online.

PC = World of Warcraft = End of discussion :S

Really I should be a massive PC gamer as Strategy (RTS), Shooters and MMO are all better on PC, and these are the games that make me drool.

But tbh, I much prefer FPS on the console, and add the whole RPG thing and I find it hard to decide which to choose.

So it always comes down to..... Get up, sit in a chair, wait for the PC to start (not that long with the new PC but meh) load the game, play.......... Or...... Lay on my bed, pick up a controller, get started.

You guess who wins.

Not a brilliant way of phrasing :S ha ha

Anyway, I am mixed. I should be a PC Gamer and due to WOW I was, as my PS3, 360 and Wii collection gathered dust.

Now I am mainly on PS3 as my addiction wears off and I break from WOW for a little while. (Lost the 360 and Wii in the "friend divorce" when my mate moved out of our flat :D :D )

I used to play WoW, couldn't keep up with the monthly fee though (i know it's not alot, but i don't want to pay forever lol). I hate these 'pay as you play' things, i mean what do you actually pay for? FPS's have servers and updates just like WoW, but they don't force a monthly fee on you. I just don't get it. Matrix online does that aswell. Guild Wars is the only one i've got that doesn't charge monthly, but that's rubbish.

And there is your answer. It's rubbish.

WOW still holds a massive massive fan base. It is a multi million (if not billion) pound enprise. It could not do this without keeping content fresh etc (although some users would disagree that Blizz do this :S)

But Call of Duty and the likes are fun, they've got to bring out new content and keep servers running, yet they don't charge a monthly fee? How come all good MMORPG's charge monthly, if the likes of CoD can do without it?

They don't though do they? Realistically....be honest.

They maintain servers, which are small fry in comparison to any populer MMO, and they realise what new content?

Take COD4 away and all content realised ever before is miniscule. A new map, a new game style etc is not that much work. And when I have seen an FPS realise decent new content you have to pay for it. PSN and XLive.

But still they can't really be compared. MMO's need monitoring, GM's etc etc. But if tehy did run the same thing, COD4 would be like a tenner a month :D

But you only really get the benefit when you're a higher level player. When i was in WoW, i got up to about lvl 20 or somewhere round there. All this new content that came out, the majority seemed to be new areas to explore and new missions, that really was only meant for high level players. Don't get me wrong, new stuff it released, but alot of it is for the better players.

This is true, I suppose. Some of the content for WOW does effect lower levels but only really by coincidence or ripple effect. They do change the lower levels to make them easier to get to high levels though :D

But yeah I see your point, but its still on a different level to FPS I think. And I looked at PSN the otehr day after reading this and any add ons/packs I could find for download had to be paid for :(
