So i managed to get this game from Lovefilm on Friday, and went into it with a bit of hesitation, was not XIII's biggest fan, thought it had a lot to improve on. So XIII-2 was not something I have been following or watching much of, just figured why not give it a go.
Loving it so far, really good and much improved from XIII, so hopefully some of you guys and girls have had a chance to give it a whirl and can have a chat about it. Usual kind of thing and secrets, tips etc!
Remember to warn people of spoilers!

PS3 Version
360 Version
Pretty much half price after 2 weeks, that's just crazy.

Most of the info was from a guide I've been writing up anyway. Wasn't gonna put it on here in fairness, but for another friend. :D

Wow, your like Final Fantasy Wiki - again you should do some kind of mini guide or just re-post these in the walkthrough sections, sure they will come in handy for others? However no one else seems to be on this apart from us haha

Well the max he can get ever is roughly 851 (you know...roughly).
But the large majority of that comes from the COM role :S
Basically that's if you only level COM role via large nodes. They give you +2 STR per node. 194 extra STR.
Saboteur also gives +2 extra STR, but only when levelling from odd to even, per node. So 98 extra STR.
By not min/max'ing you are only ever going to lose an extra 292 STR.
Serah is a bit more as rav gives a potential 194 extra MAG. Sab even to odd gives +98 MAG, and also SYN even to odd gives +98 MAG.
So 390 extra MAG.
It's not game breaking though.

Chocobo Racing
---------------------------
Catching Chocobos
---------------------------
7 types of Choco to catch. I'll list them with some very basic info.
Yellow - COM - Arch Steppe (sunny) - Common
Awful for fighting or racing.
Blue - RAV - Arch Steppe (rainy - west side) - Rare
Average fighter, average racer.
Green - MED - Yaschis Massif (100/110 AF) - Rare
Good healer, average racer
Purple - SYN - Breasha Ruins (300AF) - Rare
Best SYN in game, average racer
Black - SAB - Vile Peaks (010AF) - Rare
Good SAB, Average racer
White - MED - Oerba (300AF) - Rare
Good MED, average racer
Red - COM - Arch Steppe (sunny - west side) - Rare
Good COM, average racer.
2 types that are one offs. Only two you are going to want to race TBH. They are both very good at their battles roles, but the way you level means that the gold one will be weak in COM. Silver stays the best SEN though.
GOLD - COM - Dying World (700AF) - Treasure
Actual spoilerAfter you get Noel back, go to the northern area, look against the wall. Easy to spot.
Damn good COM, but only if you use only power ingredients on him. Read more later.
SILVER - SEN - Academia (4XXAF) - Mog Throw Reward
When you chat to hope, throw Mog in to the huge green planet hologram. Do it a few times from a few different angles.
Best SEN there is, even when levelling for racing.
---------------------------
Stat building
---------------------------
Basically chocobo racing stats are RP, Speed, Stamina. These are directly based off your actual battle stats.
STR -> Speed
MAG -> Stamina
HP -> RP
Whilst you can get rank A for having 700 of the required stat, it actually caps at 800
Not sure of conversion rate from HP to RP, but this caps at 160 RP. Isn't hard to get there so no problems.
When levelling your chocobo use potent materials, as this gives them increases in STR, MAG and HP. Silver and Gold should both be over the caps by level 45.
If they are not, get a couple of cheap monsters with Magic/Strength+ 15% abilities and infuse them. Easy.
---------------------------
Passive abilities
---------------------------
Much like the stats, the passives are converted from battle passive abilities.
These stats are all passive. They take effect without interaction.
Easiest just to list them here.
Strategy specific abilities (will only work when you have that strat selected)
-Blue Streak: Makes your boost deplete slower when using it (4th strat)
-Turbo: Makes your boost deplete slower when using it (3rd strat)
-Lightning Bolt: Speeds up your boost increase temporarily (2nd strat)
-Supersonic: Speeds up your boost increase temporarily (1st strat)
Other abilities that are not strat specific (they initiate regardless of strat, but may still have other requirements to activate)
Attention Hog: Stats increased when deemed a favorite
Converted from - Feral Speed II
Dark Horse: You get better odds, even when the favourite.
Converted from - Item Scavenger II or Item Collector
Free Spirit: Will stay at own pace, despite the race pace.
Converted from - Auto-Bravery or Auto-Vigilance
Health Nut: Choc is always in a good mood/form.
Converted from - Rapid Recovery
Limelight: Stats will increase during graded races.
Converted from - Kill: ATB Charge or Kill: Libra
Marathoner: Increased stamina during long races (1200, 1800).
Converted from - Critical: Vigilance or Critical: Tetradefense
Sprinter: Increased speed during short races (600)
Converted from - Critical: Bravery
Rocket Blast: Lengthens the time frame you can hit x to get a power start.
Converted from - Role Resonance
Second Wind: Improves the effect of Blue Streak or Turbo
Converted from - Improved Counter or Fettered Magic
Runaway: Improves the effect of Lightning Bolt or Supersonic.
Converted from - Pack Mentality
---------------------------
Racing Tips
---------------------------
1) The gold choc comes with Lightning Bolt and Marathoner. The silver with Blue Streak and Sprinter.
2) Get a silver choco, use it for mainly short races. Teach it marathoner (it's easy) for when you need to do the longer races.
Use the 4th strat, and then boost when Blue Streak activates for a sprinting finish.
Use 2nd strat if gold.
3) Teach you choco
-Marathoner(if Silver)-- Sprinter(if gold)
-Dark Horse (this gets you more coins by being able to win more by betting on yourself)
-Second Wind (if siler)-- Runaway if gold
-Rocket Blast (just makes things easier)
-Limelight (better stats for graded - which is what you will be racing mostly)
-Attention Hog (you are always favourite, so better stats)
Only the top 3 are really required to win most races. the others just makes life easier, but reduice your coin winning by betting.

Haha you should have done this as a walkthrough / level guide and I would say its a good shout for a GAD win! Very helpful to anyone new to the game or even those who are not as experienced (most people) as Warhunt!
Still enjoying it, more than FFXIII (but it has made me want to go play it again, too much else to play, but still)
Like it a lot and enjoying most aspects, Im sure that I am fairly strong for where I am in the game, but only just started changing so I use the larger nodes on my main role. So I am currently level 81 I think with Noel as COM, and his attack is still not doing massive damage, may have messed up a bit here!? think his STR is like 220? Not sure if this is good or not, so I will ask for help from our friendly neighbourhood Warhunt......... please!?

I still use Flanitor for a MED, just with others.
My paradigm set is :
Serah-Noel-COM(Chichu), RAV(Cloudburst), MED(Flanitor)
COM/COM/COM (N) --- RAV/COM/RAV (N)
RAV/RAV/RAV (Nl) --- SYN/SYN/MED (W)
SAB/SAB/RAV (W) --- SEN/SEN/MED (N)
My boss paradigm set is :
Serah-Noel-COM(Chichu), SEN(Silver Chocobo), MED(Flanitor)
COM/COM/COM (C) --- RAV/RAV/COM(C)
SYN/SYN/SEN (N) --- SAB/SAB/MED(C)
SEN/SEN/SEN (N) --- MED/MED/MED (N)
When you can viably do so you should always try to use the same role in all slots, as this increases the bonus of that role. I'm sure you know this, but meh... worth mentioing.
Here is a breakdown. Bear in mind these are all the figures after you have maxed the role out in the crystarium (default -> I -> II)
---------------------------
COM Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
COMs employ the use of non-elemental attacks to deal massive amounts of damage. Attacks by COMs stabilize the chain gauge and they can maintain them for longer periods, allowing the rest of your party to fill it up and ‘Stagger’ your target. The COM role bonus increases the damage dealt by all spells and attacks.
20% extra damage for yourself, 8% extra damage for allies
Each character does 10,000 per hit normally (30,000 party)
COM bonus = 12,000 per hit (36,000 party)
COM/COM bonus = 12,960 per hit (38880 party)
COM/COM/COM bonus = 14000 per hit (42,000 party)
---------------------------
RAV Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
RAVs are great at quickly building up the chain gauge, consequently increasing the damage they deal with every subsequent attack. Any and all increases to the chain gauge made by a RAV deplete extremely fast, however, with help of a COM, RAVs can stagger a foe the fastest.
RAVs can target an enemy’s weakness to further increase the rate at which they raise the chain gauge using elemental attacks. RAV’s role bonus boosts the rate at which the chain gauge rises.
3% extra chain boost for yourself, 0.2% extra for allies
---------------------------
MED Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
Healing, curing, rezzing. No more to say.
30% healing power boost for yourself, 8% extra for allies
---------------------------
SEN Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
Actually do a bit more than first thought. They take far less damage, but also are much more resistant to status debuffs, and wound effects (annoying!)
50% damage reduction for yourself, 9% for allies
36% wound damage reduction for yourself, 7% for allies
'Tortoise' is awesome. Watching a move that would kill you easily normally do absolutely nothing is just great.
---------------------------
SYN Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
SYN is a support role that concentrates on augmenting party’s defensive and offensive prowess by casting different magics. SYNs can imbue non-elemental attacks with any element, enabling allied members using roles such as COM to exploit an enemy’s weakness as well. Bonus increases duration.
30% extra duration for yourself, 8% extra for allies
---------------------------
SAB Role bonus
---------------------------
Overview
Same as SYN but with debuffs :D
They also cause wound effect everytime they hit, so can be handy on long battles.
30% extra duration for yourself, 8% extra for allies

So do you not play with your Monster friend as a MED, I was thinking of changing mine to being a RAV and COM with Serah staying as my MED. Just because I think the Monsters have better stats lol, plus I like the look of some of em and want to use them.
That said, my tactic is working well at the moment and going strong, so have to see.
Just got to the Casino, no really understanding the chocobo racing and the slots just stole all my money, so I will soon leave and not look back! Bah!

Flanitor is probably the best medic there is. I still use him and haven't had to invest a lot of effort in to his build.
Two important things about him/her (it's a flan....) :
1) It's feral ability. Instant group heal, and pretty much full heal too.
2) If his bar isn't full and he has a spare move he will use 'cheer' to build his gauge up faster.
I think I was about 99 in two main roles (COM/SYN Noel, RAV/MED Serah, and high enough to get their ultimate moves from the crystarium upgrades.
There is a LOT of min/max potential in the crystarium though, so I was probably more powered than that level suggests generally.
Also make sure you pick up Chichu from Arch Steppe. You need Mog's upgraded ability to do this mind, but you get it in the story. You may have noticed a red patch of flowers just north of the camp, near the big rock. Throw Mog into it to search a few times. Easy to get.
Best COM in game easily, mine has 1350 STR, 6000HP and just eats mobs up...

What levels were you when completing Warhunt? Just so I know if im on track near the end lol.
I am currently with the hunters and about to take down that big dragon thing thats eating Flans, seems im moving along, but slowly, still had no real struggle in a battle yet (apart from that big thing i accidentally walked into near the said dragon above lol)

Good deal.
I reckon the main story is probably doable in 15-20 hours (I might try and speed run through after I finish it 100%).
To do everything I'd hazard a realistic 40 hours.
Same as 13, it saves after you finish and unlocks several new 'things'.
You can also find gate seals to close the time gates and basically re-play that zone as if you had never been there before. This is needed for some zones, or for watching the 8 different 'Paradox Endings" - basically endings throughout the game that finish the game there and then with a new storyline being laid out.
With the 9 different endings, and the vast amount of sidequests there is a lot to do.
And the ending? I would say it is one of the best endings there is, it does feel a bit rushed but only in a breath taking way as opposed to wrapping things up.

Have not had the chance to touch it again really, been ill for a couple days and had no desire to play the computer lol.
What kind of duration are we looking at to get the thing completed? Does it finish well and seem complete or a bit rushed and a cop out if you know what I mean!?

Completed it now. Fairly short, but thankfully completing the story isn't the whole deal.
The ending (or non-100% one) is pretty cool by the way. Well worth rushing the story to get to, before doing 100%.
Chocobo racing... awesome once you get in to it :D

Get Flanitor when you can. Apparently the best healer there is thanks to his link skil. I'm still using Cait, but only until he comes along.
Also, lesser known fact. When you level up the roles are you making sure you use the big crystrals in the crystarium for your main role?
I basically use small crystals for 'off-roles' while switching back to main roles for big crystals. Obvsiously I haven't sone this all the time otherwise I wouldn't be lvl 60main/20/20 on odds.
Reason being that the big crystals give you a bonus for the role you level it up with. So if you use the big crystals to level COM up you get +2 STR, whereas using it to level RAV gets you +2 MAG, (think MED and SEN are both +6HP, and the others are... :S)
Also I like your paradigms except the last RAV/RAV/MED. I use COM/RAV/MED instead.
COM/RAV will attack the same target, as opposed to opposite ones.
Also the MED does nothing to slow the stagger gauge decreasing, and RAV's don't have the "slow stagger" effect. Also not sure if you noticed but the stagger itself lasts half as long if you didn't stagger when the "slow stagger" was in effect.
For notes:
SEN defensive/provoke spells slow the gauge
SAB debuffs spells slow the gauge
COM attacks spells slow the gauge
Phew. Sorry for the lesson if it wasn't needed, but it's my thang.

Cool, so pretty close. I have not unlocked any of the other roles like SYN or MED, just stayed with basic 3 and levelled them up so I think im pretty strong.
I use;
COM/RAV/MED
COM/COM/MED (when staggered)
SEN/SEN/SEN (for big hits)
RAV/RAV/MED (to get stagger)
Seems to work well, need a decent monster companion really, as I have Cait Sith at level 23 who knows the 2nd level cure spell but still is weak as! Heard the Chocobos are good but hard to get and have high HP when you fight them. So want a Green one to be my MED, I just like not having to worrying about healing and just going all out attack lol.
Im enjoying it and will hopefully get some more time in soon, and i dont even mind grinding a little here and there to bump the levels up, but CP points seem to be given out in plentiful amounts, especially Bosses where you get a few thousand!

About the same then I should imagine. You find Snow, fight the flan, then go do some other stuff then go collect 2 fragments from unlocking gates in the Snow area, and then go back and kick the flan properly. I'm there.
Noel: 50-55 COM, 20 SYN, 15-20 RAV
Serah: 60 RAV, 22 SAB, 16 MED
Monsters:
--RAV (the little gremlin like thing, without it being an actual gremlin from the first zone) -He is 25 odd. 480 magic or so.
--COM. I use Svarog (rare spawn I found in the 2nd area (just before boss), very hard fight). -Absolute beast lvl 30, 380 attack 3000HP odd.
--SEN. I use Pulsework Soldier, maxed at level 20.
I'm switching out to "Miniflan" soon for COM though, as he is lvl21 with slightly less power, but more magic (Svarog is 380STR, 70 MAG roughly, whereas Minflan is 350 on both for example).
I'm liking that the wrong paradigm set up can ruin you still though. I came across one boss (the one just before you meet the leader of academy) where I died!! Usual paradigms just left me no room to damage him while he was staggered.
I switched to using the SEN/SEN/SEN then COM/RAV/MED and just 'served' him. 5 stars. Woop.

I aint had the chance the play it that much really i am around the part where;
You fight Caius and learn a bit more about Yeul. About an hour past that.
Not sure how that compares with you, my characters seem to be high level, as Noel is level 62 COM (not focusing on much else for him really) and Serah is level 40 RAV but with COM being mid 30's aswell.
Is the cap 99? If so it seems like you will reach that easily!? unless im being naive haha.
Whats you take on the monsters and what do you use?

Played it for roughly 7 hours now (or so).
Just about to go and put some beat down on the giant flan (for the second time).
Enjoying it so far, but I think they have failed at the integrating story again. Find myself reading the datalog after every cut scene for a full translation again.

Although over 12 months Lovefilm have never managed to send me a new release in the first 2 months of it being new.
Bearing in mind as well that there is ALWAYS at least 1 or 2 'reserved' on my lists as high priority.
When something is new I put everything else on low, and the new on high. Nothing :(
Unlucky eh?

Haha, i didnt want both copies! Hopefully you will get it soon, but im sure you will quickly get past me and complete it before I do!
I have to agree, paying £45 a game is high and with LoveFilm it makes it much more cost effective, and you take gambles on games which normally you wouldnt!

Would snatch it up off you if I could, hopefully I''ll get that one copy they seem to have when you send it back. Am kinda wanting to play it (ok deperately) but can wait. Not paying £45 for any more games to be honest.

Yea got mine through LF, i was quite keen to get it and im on the top package deal with them, so had in my games list, FFXIII-2 on both Xbox and Ps3, thinking that would increase my chances of getting it and they wouldnt be stupid enough to send em both......... well they did, waste of a game sent, but least I got the game I wanted haha!
I didnt play the demo, so don't know what features it shows off, but the addition to having monsters in your party is very nice, i really like the concept of it. Not far enough in to have any crazy strong ones, just a little caith sith (first one you get actually) who is a healer, and levelled him up to have curaga early on so makes life easier!
