Just found out that this just hit the shelves ! Think I might have to grab this. Anyone picked it up ? I'm guessing it still has online co-op.

Love the Quake games, never played them on consoles though.
I lie. Me and Snuggly and our crew once did a sneaky and rented one copy from Blockbuster (on his Mum's card, natch - we were only youngsters), then did the biro trick to get it running on two PS1's yayz!
Yes, we're hardcore crims.

If you like Quake 3 multiplayer, this isn't too far off.

I think most PC expansions require the orignals.

Yep.
It's very much like the original doom multiplayer except with modern FPS conventions (like being able to look around properly instead of just facing ahead).

Wasn't that the game with the ridiculous (and expensive) mech style controller? You're right, it's not the same as the expansion pack thing.

Well, I can name one. Steel Battalion: Line of Contact. ;-) You had to have the original game with the controller to play the follow up. Not quite the same as the expansion pack thing, but still forcing people to buy another game initially. ;-)

Yet, I don't quite know what's the more profitable way to be honest. An expansion pack requiring you to own the original is limiting sales to the people that own that. A stand alone at the cheaper price opens the market up substantially.
I get the impression it was easier to make the PC an expansion, whereas the Xbox version has basically been re-written, and the structure will have been changed. Hence, a stand alone product is far easier to produce. Plus as you mention, I can't think of a single console game requiring an original title. :D

and the co-op's supposed to be much shoter than the single-player.
Me and Tilt finished in 2 evenings worth of play, seemed to only take about 5 hours.

Doom 3 is probably larger. The single player has something like 45 levels in it. Even if you beat it in co-op, its worth playing through the single player because it has more atmosphere and you get the story elements and cut scenes.

Doom 3 is £18.99 on Amazon. Res of Evil is couple of quid lower.
Aha, just got it used for £14.49 including delivery from Amazon Marketplace. Not bad, eh? Still getting the res of evil pack though.

I wasn't being cheeky. :)
I meant ID are dumb for having it need the original with so many popluar game 'expansions' being playable straight out the box without the original game.
Although I suppose you get it all in one package it minimises sales and forces people who've sold the original to buy it agai if they want to play the expansion.

Sorry. I wasn't clear. PC res of evil needs the original Doom3. I highly doubt the Xbox version will need it.

Have any console games ever done this?
Anyway I think the site selling it to you would have to say that the original was required to play the game if it was indeed the case.

The Xbox version is standalone, yeah? Right? God tell me it's true!
EDIT: Because I haven't found anywhere that says you need the original.

Yo, I'm gonna get this - play.com don't mention co-op mode, but do say about team deathmatch and deathmatch and stuff.
Cheap, nice.

Well lets face it, expansion packs have always been a money making scheme. ;-) Any title could be stand alone, but why do that when you can double your intake and force the gits to get the original too. :-)

It's not an expansion pack.
It's a stand-alone title.

I picked this up friday, it great so far. It starts out much faster then the last game and has the torch and hand gun as one which I think is better.
Also got lost chapters for the xbox, after being told that it was nerver going to be released for xbox in one game shop, I went round the corner and got a copy! The guys face was a picture and to my surprise he then handed the £10 I bet him (that I cound get a copy). You have to start again so havent found much new stuff yet.....
