Battlefield Bad Company, as many of you will know is going to be a big, FPS set in modern warfare, with 90% destructable enviroments and beautiful graphics, its the first big contender for Call of Duty 4.
Some of you may have played Battlefield 2 on the PC and if you have then i am sure you fell in love with it just like i did, and that the release of Bad Company has you biting your nails in anticipation. It looks to be much more like the loved PC version and less like the console versions, while the console versions were good, they just didnt live up to its big brother.
The release of Bad Company has been put back and back, but with it now in sight im growing more and more impatient until i can finally play on my Ps3, with a good FPS, like Call of Duty 4 BUT i have veichles! Helicopters, Tanks, Trucks, the full works (except planes!!) but this should inject a new bit of life into the shooting genre. While Call of Duty 4 has been nothing less than excellent i think Battlefield could be the one to top it!
Thats enough about how much i love the game, now onto the real subject at hand. For the same amount of money - £39.99, you can purchase a Gold Edition of the game. Now after hearing rumours and different stories i have finally gotten to the truth and learnt that this is the extra you get:
Get into the fight quickly - the Gold Edition includes five multiplayer weapons, normally at rank 25, available for immediate use on the battlefield.
Know the battlefield - eight multiplayer map strategy videos are included covering everything from basic to advanced covering all the strategic depth of the gameplay.
Behind the scenes - a documentary with a fascinating insight into the production of Bad Company, from early concepts to the finished game.
Exclusive Smiley Grenade poster and gold metal case packaging bring the Gold Edition to life.
Now for me this is all well and good, a nice poster, a documentary if your into that kind of thing, but the fact for the same money you can just pretty much cheat and be online from the start with level 25 guns while everyone who wants to "earn their stripes" has to put up with it. I just think its a bit of a stupid idea, i mean if you aint good enough at the start then play more, get better and earn the guns and meadals as you progress, surely this is what gives the game is longevity and excitement.
I don't know how everyone else feels about this but i will not be getting the Gold Edition, while i think the steel gold case would be ncie and special editions are always a good one to have as they hold money better. I just disagree with the decsion of giving the guns away so cheaply, i think that through hard work and dedication to the game you should be rewarded.
I am interested in what everyone has to think on this, as i could understand a bit more if it was more expensive as a marketing move, but for no extra money? I cant see why they wouldnt want people playing it longer to keep their game on top.

Well conquest mode should be available to all today, let's hope it's as good as it's been cracked up to be. I prefer that style of FPS gameplay, more carnage seems to take place :D
Glad it's free as well, the COD4 map pack was a bit of a rip off, you pay £40-50 for the game then have to pay another £6.99 to get an extra 4 maps!!

Cool, i thought Gold Rush was getting a tad boring, i am level 25 with loads of the medals etc, and have been waiting for a new mode, hoping it brings some new trophies, plus its back to the old school battlefield!

Just got a message telling me a new multiplayer game 'conquest' will available to download for free on Xbox live from Thursday (presume it will be on PSN as well ?).Not much use to me as I don't have the game but thought I would share this as I know a few people on here loved it.

hmmm yea i use a bluetooth headset but its not too bad, pretty comfortable, not used it on Battlefield, only used it on Call of Duty 4.
Finding a lot of people are team killing on Battlefield which gets really annoying, just so they can get on the missile thing if your on it

I'll certainly try to get the points. Single player on the demo is so short, which is a shame, was just getting in to it (but I guess that's the idea). Need to get my microphone working properly for multi-player, though. The PS-Eye microphone has been working for games up till now (saves having to use an annoying bluetooth earpiece) but it's not doing anything at the moment.

ah right - i dont know when the demo ends but if you can reach level 4 then an extra gun has got to be worth it!
but you need 140,000,000 points to get to level 5, so no real point trying to level up beyond level 4, just waiting to see how to get the other guns in more detail form the website

I am lucky that my girlfriend doesnt mind watching me on it. But i am just waiting for the full version now - knowing that the stats are goign to be reset it just doesnt feel the same knifing someone to get their dog tags!

if people want the gold edition i can understand but i have a very short attention span and unlocking guns and getting medals will keep me on a game, if not i am liable to get bored and buy a new one, and that gets expensive!
I unlocked the 2nd sniper rifle in the demo, faster fire rate but less damage, but i prefer using it!
Just can't wait for the full version, knife people for the dog tags, get medals, awards. Going to be a very good game

Did the same, but the Gold Edition that you seem to have a slight aversion to! I don't see the problem of getting the big guns early on, more than likely I won't even use most of them and will resort to a decent machine gun.
Oh, and I'm sure there's more than one Sniper rifle in the game, wouldn't make sense to restrict it to just one you can't get unless you pre-order.

Yea - i was lucky enough to be able to use a Gameaday win to pre-order it so for the sake of a gun (which i reckon will be unlockable) shame it is the sniper rifle, would rather it have been the assualt rifle or something lol - dont really use that kit much

Edit: But not really worth the hassle of ordering somewhere just for one weapon I think...

But it says about pre-ordering for europe? well i got a code for the newsletter so hopefully that will work, i have reached level 4 and will have that gun when the full version is about!
I thought that the gold edition gave the user access to all the guns which you get at level 25 without obtaining that level.
Well either way its a sweet game and i can't wait to get the full version, see all the medals, trophies and unlocks avaliable!

I have a special attachment to Battlefield games - it was my first Online game i played and my favourite FPS (except maybe goldeneye lol) I think i will like it more than Call of Duty if the parts which are not clear in the demo are done right!
If the medals are like the PC version and leveling up requires you to have obtained certain medal etc!
Like Black8704 mentioned the dog tag system is still not clear - i knifed someone and took their dog tags, but dont know what that done - i am hoping in the full game you will have a list of all the users dog tags you have taken! Things like this just add more depth and play length for me!
Loved COD4 it was the best in a field that had so many games, but i think Battlefield will trump it, but thats my opinion, i reckon for a long time yet both Battlefield and COD4 will be full with eager players!

Played it last night, and could this game really take me away from Call of Duty which has been in my PS3 90% of the time since I've had it, in short, yes!
I'm falling for this game, it seems to have everything COD4 has and more. The kits seem to be up to standard, only get so much on the demo so hard to tell but from what I've played there's something for every type of player.
I've got my PS3 hooked up to an HD tv so coming from COD4 which is very neat especially the new maps they've put out there. When I first got on there the graphics of the game looked good, then I started to roam around the map and it's evident they've really put some time into this game. The destructive surroundings works well, no more hiding in buildings from those tanks!!
The leveling up system isn't yet apparent, like what medals you get and how to get them. How the dog tags work etc, but there seems like there is going to be a decent amount of stuff to get stuck into. I'm hoping the way you get into games is out of choice and not as random as the COD4 online system was.
From the taster I've had I'm really thinking this could pull those COD4 fans away from what has been a great game thus far, Battlefield is the new black!

Enjoyed the demo, but in sd it's really hard to see what team someone's on at times. My 360 is in HD on my monitor though and its much easier, but i'd prefer to get it on ps3.

I've played it,thought it was quite good but nothing amazing.May pick it up when its a bit cheaper.Its good for people who found the maps in the Call Of Duty games too small,and the vehicles are quite good fun.Gameplay wise its not in the same league as COD 4 or Gears Of War IMO.Granted it does play differently to both of those games.But their still the best console shooters available in my view and I suppose I compare any new games to those ?.But thats the beauty of the demo,you can try it before parting with your cash.Worth a download for sure,lots of people seem to like it.

I am in love with this game all ready, looks good, the new engine of destructable landscape is a lovely new addition to the genre! Medals, dog tags, guns - so much to do and unlock!
If you level up to level 4 in the demo you get an exclusive gun - so if your getting the game then id get on the demo!

that blox game looked pretty fun - im a big DBZ fan tough and think this could be the best yet, still waiting for the Naruto game, that also looks incredible

Looks like you got lucky, congrats on the Ironman review GAD. Should hopefully let you cover the cost of BL now, though I'd probably get that Wii blox game . I'd still recommend get the Gold edition of BC anyway if it's the same cost, there's some nice videos on there apparently and the box will be nice.

yea i agree with you on that, in Call of Duty i use one of the earliest guns avaliable to you - the M4
but when i played battlefield 2 on the PC i did find that the better guns were the ones you unlock, just by power and accuracy especially as a sniper - the last gun was the best by far.
but still can't wait to get my hands on this, have it pre-ordered and should get it on release day!

I like the case! Not to sure about the weapons, sometimes the earlier ones are the weapon of choice anyway, especially if you have a half decent machine gun.
