Okay, I was hoping somebody else would start talking about this and I could casually join in without having to admit to anything, but as that hasn't happened, I have to admit... I bought a "kid's" game.

Excellent fun though! Anybody agree? I had a little fun on Episode III which managed to give away a few little plot details (there really aren't many left at all now for this movie) and also spent some time running through Episode I.

It might be simple stuff (well, it definitely is, even making TimeSplitters 3 look hard by comparison), but its somehow excellent fun and often quite funny. My only criticism so far is that duels between two human players tend to reach stalemate quite quickly because of the excellent blocking achieved by quick mashing of the square button. My advice: convince them you're working together then surprise the other player with some sneaky back sabering.

Any thoughts?

Played the demo. It seems to be repetitive hack and slash gameplay, fair enough but I've had quite enough of that with the Dark Alliance series.

Think i shall be sticking with Lego Star Wars for now.

Got Darth Maul last night and what a cool little character he is. Having finished the story mode for Ep 1 i have just been going back collecting all the items you need for the ships. Got them all from Chapter 1 and 3, having trouble with Chapter 2 though. Think im going to try get them all before moving to Ep 2.

Seems the game might actually last me a fair while, which i didnt think possible.

I have seen all the films now, so no need to worry about spoilers. Watching the little Lego peoples take on the film is quite amusing actually. I actually laughed when Qui-Gon died and had little X's for eyes...

Excellent news! Glad you're back into games a little! On the Darth Maul front, I can't remember exactly where he's unlocked, but since he's strictly Ep I material, I'd guess he gets unlocked in the later sections of Ep I.

I'd mention that the Ep III section may contain spoilers (I had to avoid playing that part until after seeing the movie because just from playing the first two levels I already knew more than I wanted to) but I'm guessing you've already seen Revenge of the Sith.

Are you making a move on God of War later this week, or sticking to Lego Star Wars for now?

Good choice Mr Previo! Some excellent fun to be had there! You've probably already unlocked them, but Yoda, Palpatine and Mr D Maul are excellent fun to use. Its also always very surprising how much of the level can only be accessed in freeplay mode with other character abilities unlocking hidden areas - adds a lot of extra life to the game.

I rented it, was ok, nothing spectacular. Glad I only rented it as I completed the whole game in around 5 hours, that's unlocking everything as well. I have a friend who bought it from Dixons I think for £39.99 - the fool. He then played it once and it has turned into a paperweight collecting dust.

It's supposed to be very fun and very easy so me and the girlfriend will go through it in the 2 player for fun.

I rented it out for a couple of days. I can see where you lot are coming from when you say it's a fun little game. It's got a decent 1 and 2 player mode, 2 player especially is great, the 3 episodes aren't very long to play through but there is enough to do and collect after the story section to keep you coming back.

Even after finishing it, I can envisage coming back to at some point in the future because it's just great fun. Also, I think it actually makes the Episode 1, 2 and 3 more watchable... :)

Just picked it up at the Halifax Argos, so at least it's not a one-store-only offer.

It's on a CD-ROM too - complete with purple disc. Didn't think those things existed anymore :O

I may just grab it.

Hardly original, though.
I'd go for Lego Star Wars out of the two ... just because it is something a bit different.

Got both and I'm really enjoying Episode 3. There's a lot you can do as in force powers and moves. Plus the two player co-op (missions not single player) and 2 player vs modes are a blast. I would recommend it. 8/10 for me! The voice acting sucks at times though.

I think a "single sitting" isn't giving the game enough credit. I agree that you could get through the levels in perhaps a long evening of play (longer than I have time for these days though), but even then, that doesn't include going back to find every piece of it. Pretty much all the levels will require a second play (one that will feel different as whole new areas become accessible to the new characters you can use in freeplay) so even now after many evenings of play I still haven't unlocked the mystery fourth door. (If you have, please don't tell me, I'm hoping its something interesting).

It's simple fun. You'll complete it easily within a single dedicated sitting; but that's not the point. Co-op is superb (you'll quick forget about the mission and fight each other instead), and all the levels can be played with your unlocked characters. Pushing C3PO off cliffs just doesn't lose it's appeal.

Okay, I've read the replies here and I'm a little interested. As Lego games tend to be for younger gamers, what value does this game have? Does it have replay value etc...?

Sorry to tell you this, I had no luck here either. Mine didn't load for ages and when it finally did on attempt number 20 something... it made a horrendous noise. I tried it on a friends PS2 and the story wasn't that different - it loaded more quickly, but made loads of noise again.

I actually got a new PS2 recently, one of the PSTwos and that loads it fine, though its still noisier than with other (as you say, silver) discs. I wouldn't suggest replacing your PS2 just for one game though - I did it because of gradually compounding problems - it gave up playing DVD movies years ago, then steadily got worse with games too. A disc cleaner prolonged its life for an extra year or two, but even that has little effect now. Luckily it still works for most things, so can let others use it now - two ps2s on the go at once.

Has anybody had problems loading Lego Star Wars. I think it may be to do with the disk being blue as i have no probs with silver disks. I thought it was the disk, i have swapped it three times now but still having the same problem "DISK READ ERROR", HELP.

One hell of a fun game, with good but not too taxing puzzles. It's a game that you can storm trhough in an evening, but has infinite replay value with a friend.

Also love the character switching with different abilities. And Yoda with the lightsaber.... wow! Without... hoverchair!! You can't lose.

Worst parts are the vehicle sections - race wasn't too bad, but the end of Episode 2 where you had to blast the light beams, then the power coils in under a minute or so... was a bit tight. Though it was great when I managed it with a split second to spare.

And when Padme gives birth... heh.
