Rapidly becoming my favourite Gamecube game this. I know it has recieved a lot of stick, especially for the battle mode, but the single race experience is second to none.
I've been playing it with a bunch of my brother's mates for the past 2 hours and I'm getting a few mates over to play it in a moment.
Ah I love it so, a true Gamecube memory.

Those blue shells are horribly unfair. They pretty much ruin your race and it's damn near impossible to avoid them.

Then play Double Dash again.

I don't think the racing is better at all.
Powersliding was removed, the courses are extremely short and on the whole not as good, and controlling the karts has changed so much it just feels wrong.

Well, they didn't get rid of it completely. They just removed the jump function so that it felt really weird and crappy.

Powerslide is in it.
Mario Kart doesn't feel the same with just one character. The Dual characters add such a new dimension to the franchise... It's just so much fun. I always have a character that has a defensive special and one that has an offensive one. And I switch between them depending on position.
Love the game.

Yes, powersliding is still there. But it's rubbish. Powersliding in previous versions is so much better it's unbelievable.
And no, Mario Kart doesn't feel the same with just one character in the karts. It feels so much better. Two characters was a good novelty idea, but considering the fact that Double Dash is easily the weakest of all the Mario Kart games, then it shows that it's not a feature that Nintendo should even be considering again. Yeah, it can be a laugh for some time, but being quite honest I'd much rather have one character per kart, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who was left very disappointed following Double Dash.

Am I the only person here who thinks Double Dash was 'the dogs'?
I have played Mario Kart 64 once since I've had Double Dash and I prob won't play it again. It is so boring compared to DD!
It makes me laugh reading all of these because when MK64 was out everyone kept harping on about how bad it was compared to the SNES version!
Now, all of a sudden its the bees knees again!
Talk about fickle!

I played it and Koed the game on every setting. I have to say the best characters for weapons are probably the little people.

Too slow, too easy, multiplayer arenas sucked, hard.
That said, it's still a lot of fun to stick an album on loud and spend 40 minutes doing the all star cup.
But it should have been better, much better. Removing the crappy karts and sticking to the old ones would be a good start.

I bought my Gamecube because of Double Dash since I had enjoyed MK64 so much. I was however dissapointed because it felt inferior to MK64.It is not a bad game it just isn't as good.In MK64 the courses were much better and I think the whole experience was much better. It was the first time I had played a Mario Kart game and it was amazing but the next game in the series did not live up to it.It was a good thing I had got Sunshine,Prime and Windwaker with my Gamecube because then I would have got bored quickly.

I have played Mario Kart 64. Have you played it recently, the graphics and frame rate are appalling, especially on the Donkey Kong one. Still, a great game. Fantastic multiplayer. Though PD had the best multiplayer ever.

I actually played it yesterday. :-)
That was 4 player battle with mates.
The graphics and frame rate are actually perfectly acceptable for a 4 player battle on the Block Fort, actually. I think visually it's still a fine game. There are a couple of frame rate issues on some courses, but they really don't make much of a difference.

It's a shame that battel mode wasn't as great, as the actual racing is second to none.

Mario Kart lived and died on the SNES, where it was one of the very best games on a system that could drown in amazing games. The N64 version was merely pretty good, and Double Dash is just an awful game and imo one of the biggest disappointments this generation (especially compared with the electrifying GC version of F-Zero).

So you prefer F Zero GX? I found that alright but I'm moving away from playing racing games right now.

Give over. I've not heard so much tosh for a long time!
DD was and is a great game. F Zero on the Cube sucked too. I bought it and it was back at the shop the following day. Extreme G 3 was better and faster!
